GTI is seeking an MRO/VMI Coordinator to own plant-level inventory management and supplier coordination for maintenance, repair, and operating supplies. This role is responsible for ensuring maintenance technicians, facilities teams, and production operations have timely access to critical spare parts, consumables, tools, PPE, and indirect materials needed to maintain uptime and support safe operations.

The MRO/VMI Coordinator will manage storeroom organization, inventory accuracy, replenishment strategies, and on-site vendor managed inventory programs. This role requires strong execution, urgency, organization, and the ability to partner cross-functionally with Maintenance, Operations, Purchasing, Supply Chain, Finance, and supplier representatives.

Key Responsibilities

    MRO Inventory Ownership & Material Availability
    • Own day-to-day inventory management for maintenance, repair, and operating supplies including spare parts, motors, bearings, belts, sensors, valves, electrical components, tools, PPE, lubricants, janitorial supplies, and facility materials
    • Maintain proper stock levels for critical spare parts and frequently used maintenance items to prevent downtime
    • Establish and manage min/max levels, reorder points, safety stock, and replenishment triggers
    • Monitor consumption trends and proactively adjust stocking strategies based on plant demand
    • Ensure technicians and operations teams have rapid access to materials required for uptime and repairs

    Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) Program Management
    • Maintain on-site VMI supplier programs including fasteners, consumables, vending systems, stocked bins, safety supplies, and commonly used maintenance materials
    • Coordinate vendor visits, replenishment schedules, stocking cadence, and service levels
    • Evaluate opportunities to expand VMI programs where beneficial to reduce administrative burden and improve service

    Storeroom, Warehouse & Inventory Accuracy
    • Ensure storeroom organization including labeling, bin locations, visual controls, cleanliness, and inventory discipline and report to MRO Buyer any opportunities for improvement
    • Investigate root causes of shrinkage, stockouts, overstock, and inventory errors
    • Maintain accurate ERP inventory records, item masters, unit measures, and transactions

    Maintenance & Operations Partnership
    • Partner daily with Maintenance, Facilities, and Production leadership to understand equipment reliability needs and upcoming maintenance events
    • Support planned shutdowns, PM schedules, equipment installations, and emergency repair needs with material readiness
    • Coordinate urgent part sourcing requests with MRO Buyer and external suppliers

    Purchasing & Supply Chain Coordination
    • Track open purchase orders, expected receipts, late deliveries, and shortages
    • Support supplier onboarding, item setup, and alternate sourcing efforts for obsolete or constrained materials

    Continuous Improvement & Reliability Support
    • Identify recurring breakdown parts usage and partner with Maintenance on root cause solutions
    • Support TPM, preventive maintenance, and reliability-centered maintenance initiatives through strong parts readiness
    • Participate in Root Cause Analysis using 5 Whys, Fishbone, and corrective action methodologies
    • Improve material flow, response times, and storeroom efficiency through process improvements

    Metrics, Reporting & Performance Management
    • Track and report KPIs including stockouts, inventory accuracy, fill rate, VMI performance, downtime caused by missing parts, spend trends, and inventory turns
    • Enter data for dashboards and reporting tools for plant leadership visibility
    • Maintain accurate records for audits, controls, and operational reviews

    Safety & Compliance
    • Maintain safe storage practices for chemicals, lubricants, electrical parts, and maintenance materials
    • Ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental, and internal storage requirements
    • Support proper handling and disposal processes for regulated materials where applicable

Requirements

    Required Qualifications
    • 1-3+ years of experience in MRO inventory, storeroom management, maintenance purchasing, warehouse operations, or supply chain support
    • Experience working in manufacturing, industrial, distribution, or plant operations environments
    • Strong understanding of spare parts management, inventory controls, and replenishment logic
    • Excel and data analysis skills
    • High sense of urgency, organization, and ownership mentality
    • Strong communication skills with ability to work across Maintenance, Operations, and Supply Chain teams

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience supporting fabrication, welding, assembly, automation, or industrial manufacturing environments
    • Background in Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI), crib management, or industrial vending systems
    • Knowledge of maintenance parts including motors, bearings, pneumatics, hydraulics, electrical controls, and consumables
    • Lean Manufacturing, 5S, APICS, or inventory management certifications a plus
