Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare frozen tissue sections for microscopic examination using a cryostat.
  • Gross, embed, cut, stain, and process tissue specimens for Mohs surgery.
  • Maintain efficient specimen workflow and prioritize multiple cases based on clinical needs.
  • Care for, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, instruments, and accessories.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, stocked, and properly inventoried laboratory environment.
  • Follow applicable CLIA, OSHA, infection control, and laboratory safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory documentation and quality-control records.
  • Support timely turnaround of Mohs specimens while maintaining quality and safety standards.
  • Collaborate closely with Mohs surgeons and laboratory staff to support efficient surgical workflow.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Laboratory Manager or management.
Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1 year of recent experience preparing frozen sections, including grossing, embedding, and cutting tissue for Mohs cases preferred.
  • Experience working with cryostats and processing Mohs specimens strongly preferred.
  • Independently cut and process 12-14 Mohs cases with a 20-minute turnaround time.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume laboratory environment without compromising safety or specimen quality.
  • Ability to triage and prioritize multiple specimens received simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Collaborative, dependable, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a laboratory and surgical team.
  • Strong organization and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to adapt to varying specimen sizes and workflow demands.
  • Knowledge of CLIA, OSHA, and laboratory safety standards preferred.
Licensure/Certifications/Education

Education & Experience:

  • HT(ASCP) certification preferred but not required with commensurate experience.
  • Associate degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution preferred.
  • Alternatively, completion of at least 60 semester hours of science coursework from an accredited institution may be considered.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Standing and walking for extended periods of time 
  • Moderate amount of talking, bending, twisting, reaching, and balancing. 
  • Use of hands and fingers. 
  • Handling of materials such as paper, supplies, etc. 
  • Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds. 
  • Risk of exposure to infectious organisms and the possibility of injury due to chemicals and sharp objects.
