The Role
Lead project-wide modularization strategy for CCGT and SMR plants: define module types and boundaries, integrate design for modularization, qualify fabrication yards, manage fabrication, transport and site installation, and track schedule, cost, and quality to reduce on-site risk and improve productivity.

Company Overview

Blue Energy is transforming how nuclear power gets built. Instead of constructing each plant on-site from scratch - a process that takes 10-15 years and is too expensive and unpredictable to finance - we build our plants like ships: in a factory, on an assembly line, then transport and assemble them at the site. This cuts costs by over 60% and brings plants online in just three years. We also pair natural gas with nuclear at our sites, so customers can start receiving power from gas turbines right away and then switch over to clean nuclear power once it comes online - getting energy to the grid faster while nuclear is being built. Our mission is to make nuclear energy abundant, affordable, and repeatable at global scale. We use proven, already-approved reactor designs and work with existing nuclear and industrial sites, giving us a faster path to regulatory approval. By manufacturing this way, we put nuclear power on the same cost-reduction curve that has made wind, solar, and batteries cheaper every year.

Role Summary

The Modularization Manager is a senior engineering and construction leadership role, accountable for developing and executing the project-wide modularization and pre-assembly strategy for Blue Energy's Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) and Small Modular Reactor (SMR) power plant. The role owns all modular scope from early design collaboration through fabrication, transportation, and site installation, with the goal of reducing on-site construction risk, compressing the schedule, and improving craft labour productivity and safety.

The role is embedded in the owner's integrated project team and works across the EPC contractor, NSSS supplier, turbine island contractors, and balance-of-plant engineers. The successful candidate will draw on best practices from petrochemical, offshore, and advanced manufacturing to deliver a world-class modularization programme.

Key Responsibilities
  • Modularization Strategy & Planning

    • Develop and own the project-wide modularization execution plan, covering module types (structural, mechanical, electrical, piping, I&C), boundaries and interfaces, fabrication strategy, and site integration sequencing.

    • Conduct feasibility assessments and benefit analyses for all major plant systems including reactor island, turbine hall, HRSGs, feedwater, electrical/I&C, and balance-of-plant.

    • Establish module-size optimization criteria balancing fabrication efficiency, transportation constraints (road, rail, barge), and site installation capability.

    • Develop and maintain the Modularization Design Basis Document in alignment with project codes, NRC regulations, and owner requirements.

  • Design Integration & Engineering Coordination

    • Collaborate with CCGT and NSSS suppliers and EPC engineering teams from earliest design phases to identify and capture modularization opportunities before design freeze.

    • Drive 'design for modularization' discipline across all engineering disciplines — civil/structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, and I&C.

    • Lead interface management between module fabrication and site construction design packages to eliminate dimensional and installation conflicts.

    • Oversee 3D model reviews and constructability walk-downs focused on module lift, rigging, transport, and installation access.

    • Ensure module design packages meet seismic qualification, QA classification, and applicable code requirements (ASME, AWS, IEEE).

  • Fabrication Facility Management & Supplier Oversight

    • Identify, evaluate, and recommend module fabrication yard(s) and offsite pre-assembly facilities in coordination with procurement.

    • Work with Blue Energy QA team to qualify fabrication yards to 10 CFR 50 Appendix B requirements for nuclear safety-related modules.

    • Manage fabrication progress, schedule performance, and quality hold point compliance across all module suppliers; lead source inspections.

    • Oversee hydrostatic testing, pre-commissioning, preservation, and load-out activities at fabrication yards.

  • Site Installation & Construction Integration

    • Manage integration of module installation into the overall site construction schedule, coordinating across structural, mechanical, electrical, and I&C teams.

    • Lead installation readiness reviews prior to each major module set; oversee field tie-in, final connections, post-installation inspections, and turnover documentation.

    • Coordinate with the commissioning team to ensure modularized systems are turned over in a pre-commissioned, test-ready condition.

  • Schedule, Cost & Performance Management

    • Develop and maintain detailed modularization sub-schedules tied to the Level 3/4 integrated master schedule; track earned value and productivity metrics.

    • Identify schedule and cost risks; develop and implement mitigation plans; support change order evaluation for modularization scope changes.

    • Champion continuous improvement to increase module completeness, reduce site hook-up labor, and develop enhanced strategies for subsequent units.

Qualifications
  • 10–15 years of engineering and construction experience on major power or industrial projects.

  • Demonstrated experience managing large-scale modularization programs — from strategy and design integration through fabrication, transport, and site installation.

  • Prior experience managing EPC contractors, module fabrication yards, and heavy transport/lift operations.

  • Strong understanding of combined cycle power plant systems and EPC workflows.

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience on nuclear, oil & gas, petrochemical, or offshore projects with modular construction scope.

  • Familiarity with 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, NQA-1, and NRC construction oversight processes.

  • Experience interfacing with the NRC, DOE, or other regulatory bodies.

  • Understanding of commissioning, turnover, and asset lifecycle information requirements.

We look forward to your application and helping foster an era of safe, clean, affordable, and abundant energy.
