Overview

Assists patients with mobility activities under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, reporting observations and documenting in the EMR. Focus will be in cardiac units coordinating safe patient care with other members of the healthcare team. Will assist in development and continuous improvement of the overall mobility program.

Delivers excellent customer service utilizing Relationship Based Care to advocate for safety, patient preferences, and optimal communication through partnering with patients/families and colleagues, including all internal and external customers.

Responsibilities

Direct Patient Care: Under the direction of the RN, performs mobility activities with assigned patients. Able to independently assist patients with mobility, including getting in and out of bed, transfers, and ambulation. Assist with patient handling task and patient lifting utilizing safe patient handling equipment when needed. Able to monitor physiologic changes during exercises and appropriately adjusts activity. Report changes to RN. Ability to interact and motivate patients to perform mobility on a daily basis. Assists patients with mobility activities and ADLs with main focus on mobility. Receives and responds to nurse delegation. Works with nurse to set priorities when receiving multiple requests. Attends progression rounds as needed. Appropriately follows fall risk bundle protocols. Accurately documents mobility activities in the medical record.

Promotes a positive and efficient departmental atmosphere. Promotes patient satisfaction through personal interaction. Assists with intentional hourly rounding and anticipates patient needs. Reports patient status, patient/family concerns or unsafe conditions, as occur. Responds to call lights/intercom/telephones. Directs questions and problems to appropriate person, recognizing the need to seek assistance when necessary. Provides assistance/support to patients and significant others. Communicates regarding equipment maintenance and repairs. Assists with maintaining a clean and safe environment. Facilitates communication between disciplines (nurses, physicians, etc.)

Takes Leadership Role in developing Mobility Program. Assists leaders from nursing and rehabilitation department to create an effective mobility program. Provides guidance or supervision to other mobility techs as the program grows. Helps educate/orient new hires or individuals who provide mobility with patients. Works with multiple nursing units to coordinate mobility program.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:Required: BS in Exercise Related Degree

EXPERIENCE:Preferred: Experience working with hospitalized patients or experience with exercise physiology.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:REQUIRED

BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
