We have an excellent opportunity an experienced Portables Crushing Foreperson to join our Canterbury Quarries team. In this role, you’ll lead the day-to-day operation of a portable crushing plant based in Ashburton, while also operating loaders, excavators and other machinery as needed.

This is a hands-on role with real responsibility. You’ll be trusted to keep the plant running well, lead from the front on safety, quality and environmental standards, and help the team deliver Good Work every day. You’ll be working with modern plant and equipment, including a new Volvo L180K loader, giving you the chance to do good work with gear that is built to perform. If you like variety, back yourself to work independently, and want to keep growing your career, this could be a great fit. This role also offers the opportunity to work towards your B-Grade Quarry Manager certificate with the right attitude and commitment.
 

Ngā kawenga matua | Key responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain the portable crushing plant to support safe, efficient production.
  • Lead daily pre-start meetings and set the tone for a safe, well-organised day.
  • Monitor and report plant production to the Portables Manager.
  • Ensure environmental compliance across the operation.
  • Carry out daily machine, health and safety, and quality checks, and complete associated documentation accurately.
  • Operate loaders, excavators and other machinery as required.
  • Build strong working relationships with internal and external customers.

  • A Full Class 2 Licence with WTR endorsements.
  • Experience in the mining or quarrying industry.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and a hands-on approach.
  • The ability to work unsupervised and stay accountable for outcomes.
  • The confidence to lead a small team in remote areas without immediate workshop support.
  • A proactive approach to health, safety and wellbeing.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A collaborative, team-focused attitude and willingness to pitch in where needed.
  • Flexibility to take on a range of daily tasks and grow with the team.
  • Willingness to learn, and a genuine interest in building a career in the industry.
