The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Manager to join our Legal & Compliance team, focusing on Legal matters in Manulife Investment Management (Japan) Limited (“MIMJ”). This role involves overseeing contracts review, management of internal rules, reporting to supervisory authorities, administration of board/shareholder meetings, and general legal matters as well as compliance matters related to MIMJ business. The ideal candidate will have strong background in legal within the financial services industry, particularly in asset management.

We are looking for someone with:
- Minimum 5 years of legal experience in asset management firms
- Excellent interpersonal skill and organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal oversight
- Strong analytical skills and attention to details
- Ability to work on multi-tasks and meet tight deadlines
- Ability to embrace change
On the job you will:
- Review contracts and statutory documents
- Establish, revise, and manage of internal rules
- Report and submit documents to supervisory authorities and affiliated associations
- Cover general legal affairs
- Administrate MIMJ board meetings and shareholder meetings
- Stay updated on regulatory changes and industry best practices to ensure the compliance’s compliance framework remains robust and effective.
- Perform other duties as assigned from time to time to support the overall compliance objectives of the organization.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 6-8 years of experience in legal, preferably within the financial services industry, with a focus on asset management business (Toshi Komon Gyo, Toshi Shintaku Itaku Gyo)
- Strong knowledge of Japanese regulatory requirements and international compliance standards.
- Qualification as a lawyer is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with ITM (Toshi Shintaku) regulations is a strong plus.
- Fluency in Japanese and business-level English is required.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
