MIM's Global Real Estate and Agricultural Investments maintains a portfolio invested in commercial real estate and agricultural mortgages, as well as real estate equities. In addition to sourcing and managing these investments, the groups are responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with key industry contacts and referral sources. The mortgage portfolio and equity portfolio units are organized according to specialty, and they actively manage MetLife's portfolio of mortgage loans and equity investments in agricultural, office, apartment, retail, industrial, and hotel properties. The portfolio units are responsible for overall portfolio strategy, pricing, transaction approval and credit approval on new loans, as well as the active management of the overall mortgage and equity portfolios. Real Estate Investments sources and manages commercial real estate investments through seven regional field offices in the U.S. and International field offices in London, Tokyo, Mexico City and Santiago.
The Associate will assume an integral role in MIM's Real Estate Debt Strategies Group (DSG). The Associate will support the Separate Account Portfolio Management team in all aspects of management and reporting of MIM's $15B Debt Managed Separate Account portfolio. The Associate will liaise directly with clients on new transactions, quarterly and ad hoc reporting needs, loan workouts, and special projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Help develop and manage client relationships, present portfolio updates, market trends, and pipeline activity to clients on an ongoing basis
- Liaise with MIM's Regional Office deal teams, Legal, Accounting, Compliance and broader DSG team to grow AUM and drive business initiatives
- Manage a detailed allocation process of Separate Account clients into new origination opportunities
- Attend Investment Committee meetings for new originations and provide general client appetite for new transactions
- Attend portfolio surveillance meetings; Provide notice to clients of any material portfolio updates and upcoming payoffs
- Review all quarterly reporting deliverables to separate account clients and prepare presentation materials for quarterly reviews
- Provide general analytical support to the Portfolio Management team as needed, as well as ad hoc requests and projects related to clients' portfolios
- Enhance existing models and reporting processes as needed
- Work closely with Compliance to ensure portfolios meet investment guidelines
- Assist in the maintenance and the launching of new, client-facing system enhancements
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
Required:
- 5+ years of relevant experience in a role within institutional commercial real estate, preferably in an origination, acquisition, asset management or portfolio management capacity.
- Ability to multitask in a high performing, collaborative environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel

Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in Real Estate, Finance, Economics, Business, English, History, Political Science or Philosophy, as well as any other related field of expertise.
