Job Description SummaryThe Military DoD SkillBridge program is an opportunity for Service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through specific industry training, apprenticeships, or internships during the last 180 days of service. SkillBridge connects Service members with industry partners in real-world job experiences under Dept. of Defense Instruction 1322.29. Separating Service members can be granted up to 180 days of permissive duty to focus solely on training full-time with approved industry partners after unit commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) provides written authorization and approval. GE Aerospace as a SkillBridge partner offers real-world training and work experience in in-demand fields of work while having the opportunity to evaluate the Service member’s suitability for the work. Military DoD SkillBridge participants are not eligible for compensation from GE Aerospace, as they continue to receive military compensation and benefits as active-duty service members.

Job Description

Are you ready to elevate your career in a dynamic and innovative environment? As a CNC Machine Operator, you will play a crucial role in setting up and operating multi-axis CNC/NC machines, often running multiple machines simultaneously. Your work will involve handling a variety of metals and parts with close tolerances and fine finishes. Utilizing complex measuring devices such as micrometers, calipers, indicators, and special purpose gages, you will generate and check part dimensions during various machining stages with precision. Your expertise in precise indicating on parts, where true indicator reading (TIR) and four-point indication are critical, will ensure the highest quality standards are met.

For more than 22 years, our manufacturing facilities in Wilmington have been the driving force behind the growth and success of GE Aerospace. With 600,000 square feet of manufacturing space and an advanced mix of over 300 CNC machines and 21 special processes, we produce high-quality rotating parts for commercial and military aircraft engines. Our team plays a crucial role in introducing advanced new technologies like the LEAP and 9x Engines, offering outstanding opportunities to contribute to the future of aviation.

We manufacture a diverse range of parts and components, including Blisks, Small Spools, Welded Spools, CFM HPT Disks, and various large parts found in today's and tomorrow's high-performance engines. Our facility is the career home to over 500 employees who seek purpose and challenge in their careers—people just like you.

You could be a strong military fit for this role if you have formal machinist or metalworking training (DoD machinist school, vocational machinist program, or similar), experience reading and interpreting mechanical drawings/blueprints, tolerances, and finishes, and regularly use precision measuring tools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Dimensional Accuracy: Utilize complex measuring devices to generate and check part dimensions during various machining stages, ensuring precision and accuracy
  • Critical Indication: Perform precise indicating on parts, where true indicator reading (TIR) and four-point indication are essential to the machining process
  • Record Keeping: Accurately account for your time using the prescribed system, electronically maintain records, logbooks, and charts, and produce electronic or manual reports
  • Training and Development: Help train operators to use specific equipment, sharing your expertise and fostering a collaborative learning environment
  • Quality Assurance: Achieve all required tolerances and finishes that meet standards set by Manufacturing Engineering and Quality Assurance, ensuring all characteristics generated at designated operations are conforming through applicable inspection techniques
  • Certification: Obtain and maintain the CVP certification, with training provided to support your professional growth
  • Traceability: Accurately serialize parts to maintain traceability at all times, ensuring compliance with industry standards
  • Team Collaboration: Actively participate in daily team meetings and activities, practicing direct professional communication with team members and contributing to a positive team dynamic
  • Equipment Operation: Perform set-up and operation of equipment according to drawings, method sheets, and occasionally supplement this information with your own job knowledge
  • Material Handling: Utilize forklifts, cranes, and material handling equipment to lift or carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs, following proper ergonomic procedures

Required Qualifications

  • Active Military personnel on their last 180 days of Military service
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Expertise in CNC Machining: Bring your extensive manufacturing or military experience, with at least 3 years in the setup and operation of CNC machining processes such as drilling, milling, grinding, turning, or broaching, or leverage your 2-year degree from an accredited machinist training program to excel in this role
  • Proficiency in Technical Interpretation and Precision Measurement: Utilize your skills in reading and interpreting mechanical blueprints and production planning, along with at least 2 years of experience using precision measuring instruments, to ensure the highest standards of quality and accuracy in every task
