What We Do
Oula is a modern maternity center that brings together the best of midwifery and obstetrics to deliver a personalized, evidence-based pregnancy experience. We’re redesigning maternity care and raising the standard for pregnancy, so that everyone has the support they need to thrive before, during, and after birth. For too long, the hallmarks of maternity care in the U.S. have been disastrous health outcomes, poor experiences, and high costs. At Oula, we believe that by improving the experience of pregnancy and childbirth, we can improve outcomes, and bring down costs, too. And we’re seeing results: Oula performs better than average at the national, state, and city levels on several key metrics, including a lower rate of cesarean births and preterm deliveries. We do things a little differently because we believe that by improving experiences, we can improve those outcomes (and bring costs down, too!): ONE: Personalized care: At Oula, our team is able to spend twice as much time with patients as a regular obstetrician. . That means taking the time to listen, share information, and help our patients make the choices that are right for them. TWO: No false binaries: When it comes to pregnancy, we’re often forced to choose between false binaries: doctor or midwife, medicated birth or au naturale, modern medicine or human intuition. At Oula, we believe you shouldn’t have to choose. There is no right way to give birth; there’s only your way. THREE: Care and community: At Oula, we want patients to feel supported, empowered, and cared for from the moment they make their first appointment all the way through the “fourth trimester”, which means helping to build connection and community. Oula’s group education classes – such as birth plan workshop and postpartum “office hours” – are not only informative, but a chance to come together with others around a shared experience. Once a month, we provide dedicated space for BIPOC parents and families. FOUR:: Demographics: We are committed to serving a diverse patient base and making sure the care we provide at Oula is accessible to all. We proudly take insurance, including Medicaid. Nearly 1 in 5 Oula patients rely on Medicaid. 54% of patients identify as non-white or Hispanic Approximately 1 in 10 patients are LGBTQ+.
Why Work With Us
At Oula, we believe in honoring pregnancy as the transformative life moment it is, as opposed to simply reducing it to a clinical condition. That’s true for our patients, and it’s true for our employees, too. We are constantly working to do better for all moms, and our employees, too.
