We are looking for an experienced Middleware MQ Engineer to manage, support, and optimize IBM MQ infrastructure across distributed enterprise environments.
The role will focus on IBM MQ administration, high availability, security, monitoring, troubleshooting, automation, and production support. The ideal candidate will work closely with application, infrastructure, and security teams to ensure reliable message delivery, platform stability, and seamless application onboarding.
RequirementsKey Responsibilities
- Install, configure, administer, and maintain IBM MQ Queue Managers across distributed environments.
- Create, configure, and maintain MQ objects including queues, channels, listeners, and topics.
- Monitor MQ infrastructure and proactively identify and resolve performance, capacity, and availability issues.
- Configure and maintain MQ clustering, Queue Sharing Groups (QSG), and multi-instance Queue Managers to support high availability and resilience.
- Implement and manage MQ security controls, including SSL/TLS, CHLAUTH, OAM, and digital certificate management.
- Perform regular backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and failover activities, including periodic testing.
- Troubleshoot MQ connectivity, message-flow issues, channel failures, queue problems, and performance bottlenecks.
- Support production deployments, application onboarding, and MQ integration activities.
- Develop automation and operational scripts using Shell, Bash, Python, or Ansible to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
- Work closely with application, infrastructure, network, security, and other technology teams to ensure platform reliability and smooth operations.
- Monitor and manage MQ environments using tools such as Splunk, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, and IBM MQ Explorer.
- Participate in incident, problem, and change management processes and ensure timely resolution of production issues.
- Provide on-call and production support as required, including troubleshooting critical incidents and restoring services within defined SLAs.
- Maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and configuration records for MQ environments.
- 7+ years of experience in Middleware, IBM MQ Administration, or a similar enterprise messaging/infrastructure role.
- Strong hands-on experience with IBM MQ, preferably across v8.x and v9.x environments.
- Solid understanding of MQ Queue Managers, queues, channels, listeners, topics, and message flows.
- Strong experience with MQ clustering, high availability, Queue Sharing Groups, and multi-instance Queue Managers.
- Good knowledge of Linux/Unix administration and enterprise infrastructure environments.
- Strong understanding of SSL/TLS, CHLAUTH, OAM, certificates, and MQ security configurations.
- Hands-on scripting experience using Shell, Bash, Python, or Ansible.
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Splunk, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, or IBM MQ Explorer.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across MQ connectivity, channel failures, message flow, performance, and availability issues.
- Practical knowledge of backup, recovery, disaster recovery, failover, and business continuity practices.
- Experience supporting production environments, application onboarding, deployments, and critical incidents.
- Familiarity with structured incident, problem, and change management processes.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across application, infrastructure, security, and operations teams.
- Comfortable participating in on-call support and working in a high-availability production environment.
- A proactive approach to automation, operational efficiency, reliability, and continuous improvement.
