We are looking for a Manager, Taxation to join our high performing Taxation department to assist with leading the Income Tax Compliance function for Great-West Lifeco Inc and its subsidiaries.
As a Manager, Taxation, you will be responsible for managing Canadian income tax compliance matters, as well as information gathering for the tax returns and computations and tax audit queries. As a mentor and coach, you’ll cultivate a dynamic learning environment, empowering team members to grow.
Reporting to the Indian Director and a Canadian Tax Manager, you will collaborate in investigating, researching, and analyzing income tax issues for the purpose of tax compliance, tax audits, and/or standardized reports.
Essential Functions:
- Manage and review Canadian income tax compliance in respect of our foreign affiliates, including T1134 and T106 returns.
- Manage the information gathering for our annual Country by Country reporting (CcCR) return.
- Oversee the collection, processing and reporting of information required for tax compliance reporting or analytics (T1134 and T106 tax information returns)
- Oversee first level review of information to support the tax risk management and compliance reporting functions
- Manage and review/prepare Canadian tax computations in respect of our foreign affiliates, including quarterly surplus estimates, annual surplus and adjusted cost base (ACB) computations, and as needed excluded property reviews.
- Support the preparation of Canadian standardized reports in respect of our foreign affiliates, including preparing and reviewing Canadian contemporaneous documentation, US transfer pricing documentation and masterfile documentation.
- Analyze, research and document tax matters associated with the preparation and review of the above returns and computations.
- Assist in responding to tax audit queries including gathering the information required and compiling responses.
- Oversee document/data management by managing and reviewing the gathering and storing of certain documents/data such as financial statements and legal agreements in standardized SharePoint sites.
- Manage and review the update and maintenance of end user computing (EUC) lists.
- Development, coaching, and training of staff members.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a professional accounting designation (or equivalent).
- Currently enrolled/interested in completion of the CPA In-Depth Tax Course.
- 6+ years of experience in Canadian taxation; exposure to Canadian international tax is advantageous.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple demands and competing priorities to achieve required results.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and also work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Passion for developing others and developing a high-performance culture.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Excel; experience in SAP, Taxprep, SharePoint and/or Longview Tax is an asset.
