We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Metallurgist to join our team in Mumbai. This role focuses on conducting failure analysis of downhole components within the Rod Lift division to identify root causes such as fatigue, corrosion, and overload.The position involves close collaboration with lab technicians, engineers, and field teams to plan, prioritize, and execute investigations, ensuring timely and accurate technical reporting. This is an excellent opportunity to work on real-world failure investigations in a global energy organization, contributing directly to product reliability and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform detailed root-cause failure analysis on downhole components.

  • Analyze fracture surfaces to identify failure mechanisms.

  • Conduct microstructure evaluation to support failure investigations.

  • Prepare and examine samples using grinding, polishing, etching, hardness testing, and microscopy techniques.

  • Plan and prioritize multiple failure investigations in coordination with product line teams.

  • Guide and support lab technicians on scheduling and execution of analysis work.

  • Prepare clear and concise technical reports outlining findings and conclusions.

  • Communicate results and updates to internal stakeholders and customers.

  • Support product improvement initiatives through failure trend analysis.


Skills:

  • Strong expertise in metallurgical failure analysis, including fatigue, corrosion, and overload mechanisms.

  • Hands-on experience in fracture analysis and microstructure evaluation.

  • Proficiency in sample preparation techniques (grinding, polishing, etching, hardness testing).

  • Ability to interpret incomplete or complex data to determine root causes.

  • Strong technical report writing and documentation skills.

  • Effective communication and stakeholder coordination abilities.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Materials Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • 5–6 years of experience in metallurgical failure analysis.

  • Experience working in laboratory environments with testing and analysis equipment.

  • Exposure to non-destructive testing methods such as dye penetrant, eddy current, or magnetic particle testing (preferred).

  • Experience working with cross-functional or global teams (preferred).

  • Prior experience guiding or coordinating technicians or small teams is an advantage.
