Job Summary

Aretum is seeking a skilled and motivated Metadata Librarian. As a Metadata Librarian you will perform metadata corrections, updates, validation, and standardization. You will maintain complete and accurate metadata, bibliographic information, identifiers, and supporting documentation while meeting schedule, governance and audit requirements.

Due to the nature of our work as a federal consulting organization, employees may be expected to handle Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and must adhere to applicable safeguarding and compliance requirements.  

Responsibilities

• Carry out metadata corrections and updates in Alma according to COR providing CCB‑approved task instructions
• Apply specified metadata standardization, validation, and correction steps consistent with agency established metadata standards
• Follow implementation procedures defined in CCB task packets, including any Sandbox testing, documentation, or review requirements
• Document completed work using CCB‑defined formats to ensure traceability and auditability; save all documentation in designed folders
• Report potential issues or observations through the COR to the CCB intake process rather than initiating independent remediation
• Conduct work within schedules established
• Executing metadata changes as outlined in CCB-approved change request documentation
• Completing assigned tasks within the parameters set by the Freeze & Sandbox Policy (FSP), including freeze periods, change classifications, and required verification steps
• Keeping accurate records of updates performed, including any required pre and post-update information
• Communicating questions, ambiguities, or blockers through the COR to the CCB Secretariat for guidance
• Ensuring all updates and documentation meet agency governance and audit requirements
• Metadata must be complete and accurate for all required fields
• Metadata must follow agency ingestion standards and maintain consistency with source bibliographic information
• Identifiers must be accurate and verifiable

• 3+ years of relevant experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Information Science, Information Management, Computer Science, or related field (Must have 5-7 years of additional relevant experience in lieu of degree)
• Experience working with library metadata standards and schemas (e.g., MARC, RDA, Dublin Core)
• Familiarity with metadata remediation workflows in systems such as Alma
• Experience supporting federal government entities
• Experience with basic scripting or automation tools, including Python, to support data review, reporting, or quality control tasks when appropriate to assigned work
• Knowledge of controlled vocabularies, authority control practices, and metadata quality assurance methods
• Ability to follow structured governance procedures, including executing approved metadata changes, adhering to defined workflows, and documenting work according to established requirements
• Strong communication and documentation skills to support coordination and adherence to governance and audit requirements

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS/MLS)

Travel to client locations is required for this position and may vary based on project needs.

U.S. Work Authorization

Due to federal contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this position. This position supports a federal government contract and requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or Suitability Determination, depending on the agency’s background investigation requirements.  

• Salary Range: $80,000–$110,000 annually. Final compensation will be determined based on factors including education, experience, qualifications, skills, and applicable contract requirements.
