Job Summary

Responsible for leading the commercial execution of complex, strategic, and mission critical opportunities within an assigned geography. Partners with Sales Leadership, Account Managers, National Accounts, branch teams, Pricing, Supply Chain, Finance, Category Management, and supplier partners to develop commercial strategies, improve execution readiness, and drive profitable growth. Ensures transparent alignment from opportunity qualification through award and operational handoff while delivering responsive, dependable service.  Must maintain an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR). 

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

Leads the commercial execution of complex, strategic, and mission critical opportunities from qualification through award and operational handoff.

Develops pricing strategies, sourcing recommendations, fulfillment plans, and commercial solutions that support customer commitments and profitable growth.

Analyzes opportunity requirements, supplier capabilities, logistics considerations, competitive factors, and commercial risks to support sound decisions.

Coordinates cross-functional pursuit activities across Sales, Pricing, Supply Chain, Finance, Category Management, National Accounts, branch operations, and supplier partners.

Establishes pursuit timelines, milestones, priorities, responsibilities, and accountability measures while relentlessly managing risks, dependencies, and deadlines.

Partners with Sales Leadership and Account Managers to evaluate customer requirements, opportunity scope, competitive positioning, and pursuit strategy.

Facilitates awarded-project transition activities to support dependable execution, fulfillment readiness, delivery performance, and customer service.

Monitors commercial performance measures, identifies improvement opportunities, and implements scalable process enhancements that improve responsiveness, win rates, profitability, and execution consistency.

Provides transparent visibility into pursuit status, resource needs, supplier constraints, commercial risks, and execution challenges.

Leads projects, processes, and cross-functional workstreams by coordinating resources, influencing stakeholders, and driving timely execution without direct people-management responsibility.

Nature and Scope

  • Consults with senior management on solution development for complex strategic and technical business issues. Independently solves unique and complex problems that have a broad impact on the business. Assignments are large scope, high impact, high cost, and high importance.

  • Establishes operational plans for assigned area. Acts as a strategic advisor and uses expert skills to contribute to the development of strategic company objectives. Receives general administrative and business direction as needed. Typically operates with broad latitude in a complex environment.

  • Guides and mentors staff at all levels, provides advice to senior management on complex and strategic issues, and may lead or manage complex projects with dotted line responsibility.

Work Environment

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Conditions could produce mild discomfort on occasion.

  • Frequent periods are spent standing or sitting in the same location with some opportunity to move about. Occasionally there may be a requirement to stoop or lift light material or equipment (typically less than 8 pounds).

  • Typically requires overnight travel 20% to 50% of the time.

  • Maintains the ability to travel within an assigned geography and an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR).

Education and Experience

  • Typically requires BS/BA in a related discipline. Generally 7+ years of experience in a related field. May require certification. Advanced degree may offset less experience in some disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, construction management, engineering, supply chain, finance, or a related discipline.

  • Seven or more years of experience in project management, strategic quoting, commercial operations, pricing, supply chain, construction distribution, or related business functions.

  • Demonstrates experience supporting mission critical, industrial, or large commercial project opportunities.

  • Demonstrates experience designing or improving scalable commercial processes across multiple teams or locations.

  • Demonstrates experience leading complex, high-value, or strategically significant opportunities involving multiple stakeholders, functions, and competing priorities.

  • Applies strong analytical, financial, negotiation, project leadership, process improvement, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
