Essential Functions and Abilities Required:
- Lead and manage all MEP systems across multiple active commercial construction projects
- Partner with preconstruction teams to review design documents, identify system risks, and develop value engineering strategies
- Participate in constructability reviews and ensure coordination of MEP systems with architectural and structural components
- Oversee BIM coordination processes, clash detection meetings, and integration of all building systems
- Collaborate closely with Project Managers and Superintendents to align MEP installation with project schedules and sequencing
- Review and manage submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and system-related change orders
- Provide technical oversight of commissioning processes and ensure systems are tested, balanced, and fully operational
- Lead coordination meetings with engineers, consultants, and trade partners to resolve technical challenges
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, energy standards, OSHPD/HCAI requirements (when applicable), and local jurisdictional regulations
- Assist in turnover documentation, O&M manuals, warranties, and owner training
- Travel regularly to project sites throughout San Diego, Orange County, and Los Angeles
Knowledge and Skills:
- Building Systems — strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and low-voltage systems within commercial construction
- BIM Coordination — experience with BIM tools and processes including clash detection and systems integration
- Commissioning — knowledge of commissioning processes, TAB procedures, and building systems start-up
- Code & Compliance — strong understanding of California building codes, energy requirements, and OSHPD/HCAI regulations
- Plan Reading — ability to interpret construction documents, specifications, and engineering drawings
- Interpersonal Skills — ability to engage with clients, consultants, internal team members, and trade contractors in a constructive, solutions-oriented way
Education / Experience Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 8–15+ years of experience in commercial construction with a focus on MEP systems
- Experience working for a General Contractor strongly preferred
- Familiarity with complex project types including healthcare (OSHPD/HCAI), life sciences, higher education, and technical tenant improvements
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, Procore, and scheduling software (Microsoft Project or Primavera P6)
- Professional Engineering license or LEED accreditation a plus

The base pay range for this role is $100,000 – $150,000 per year.
