Education

  • AA/AS, BS preferred.

Experience / Qualifications

  • Licensed as a medical technologist in the state of Florida.
  • Five (5) years of clinical laboratory experience
  • ASCP or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Special Skills include: Cognizant ability to correlate results from a variety of tests and relate to treatment of patient.  Able to multitask and learn a variety of instrumentation and software systems to perform testing and result testing.  Microsoft Office skills.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission, College of American Pathology and/or AABB accreditation standards 
  • Knowledge of both Federal and State Regulations on Clinical Laboratories

Position Summary

The Med Tech Section Head maintains technical quality for assigned section and is responsible for meeting all accreditation and licensing requirements for section JC, AABB, CAP, CLIA and State of Florida. 

  • Supervises technical skills of staff working in section assigned. 
  • Performs and interprets diagnostic procedures in assigned laboratory area.
  • Maintains quality control, preventive maintenance and patient records. 
  • Assists in orientation of new employees. 
  • Remains current in technical knowledge and instrument use. 
  • Teaches students in assigned technical area. 
  • Completes technical competencies for team members.
  • May be required to crosstrain to other job descriptions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

This job can be physically demanding at times requiring stooping, sitting, standing, and walking for long periods of time. Must be able to work in a stressful environment, detail oriented, alert and self-motivated. Ability to push/pull up to 40lbs, carry and lift up to 50lbs.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     

Threshold Requirements

  • These threshold requirements are required and completed yearly basis
    • Annual Joint Commission mandatory education requirements, in-service and health requirements including attendance at new employee orientation
    • TB/PPD Surveillance Program
    • Maintenance of required professional licensing and/or certification(s).
