MongoDB empowers innovators to create, transform, and disrupt industries by unleashing the power of software and data.
The Role
Leads application architecture for ISV engagements, designing MongoDB integrations, data models, coexistence architectures, migrations, and deployment patterns. Reviews schemas, queries, indexes, code, and performance; prototypes critical paths; guides engineers and stakeholders; and develops reusable architecture assets. The role spans MongoDB Atlas, private clouds, Kubernetes, self-managed, and air-gapped environments, with regular travel to partner locations.
Summary Generated by Built In

MongoDB is the modern database platform and consistently voted the #1 most wanted database, preferred by developers. MongoDB continues to attract the most demanding and innovative companies and development teams in enterprise software.

To support this growth, we are expanding our Industry Solutions Team (IST), a flexible, globally distributed organization that helps customers and partners modernize applications and data platforms with MongoDB.

As a Forward Deployed Architect in our ISV Practice, you will be the technical design lead for engagements with independent software vendors (ISVs). You will work with ISV development leaders, senior engineers, and Forward Deployed Engineers to design how MongoDB integrates with and extends the partner’s product.

This is an application architecture role, not a database administration or database consulting role. You will ensure that the designs implemented by the team are practical, production-ready, and reusable across future partner engagements.

We are looking to speak to candidates who are based in Gurugram for our hybrid working model.

What you’ll do at MongoDB
  • Lead technical design for ISV engagements by understanding partner architecture and delivery models, then defining MongoDB data models, access patterns, indexing, and integration approaches for products serving different industries
  • Design MongoDB as a supported platform option alongside Oracle, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server, including persistence abstractions, feature parity, backend-specific behavior, and certification requirements
  • Design coexistence architectures and migration paths, including data flows, synchronization, consistency, application refactoring, dual-run strategies, validation, and controlled cutover
  • Lead design reviews, provide technical direction, and review schemas, queries, indexes, MongoDB-related code, and performance against realistic partner workloads
  • Design solutions across MongoDB Atlas, Enterprise Advanced, Kubernetes-based private clouds, and self-managed or air-gapped on-premises environments
  • Build reusable architecture patterns, migration playbooks, code templates, decision frameworks, and other assets that make future partner engagements faster and more consistent
  • Stay hands-on by reading partner code and prototyping critical paths, act as the technical escalation point for Forward Deployed Engineers, and share recurring technical gaps and patterns with MongoDB Product and Engineering teams
As an ideal candidate, you will have
  • 8+ years of experience in backend engineering and application architecture, delivering production software products
  • Strong application-side MongoDB expertise, including access-pattern-driven data modeling, aggregation, indexing, transactions, change streams, replication, sharding, and sizing
  • Application-level experience with at least one major relational database and integrating a new database into a large production codebase, including persistence abstraction, data synchronization, dual-write or CDC patterns, transactional boundaries, and incremental rollout
  • Experience designing migrations of production workloads between relational databases and MongoDB
  • Strong SaaS and product-engineering knowledge, including multi-tenancy, tenant isolation, versioned schemas, backward compatibility, and managed-cloud, Kubernetes-based private-cloud, or self-managed on-premises deployments
  • The ability to influence engineers and stakeholders without formal authority through technically sound, practical designs; explain trade-offs clearly; identify risks early; and balance delivery speed, quality, and long-term maintainability
  • Willingness to travel regularly to ISV partner locations
As an ideal candidate, you may also have
  • Experience working inside an ISV or product company, including in a forward-deployed, resident-architect, embedded-architect, or similar technical delivery role
  • Familiarity with event-driven architectures and technologies such as Kafka or Debezium
  • Experience with regulated or data-intensive industries and their security, compliance, and data-governance requirements
  • MongoDB certification, MongoDB Atlas experience, or experience with MongoDB’s broader product portfolio
What you will learn
  • Deepen your expertise across MongoDB Atlas, Enterprise Advanced, application development, data modeling, search, vector workloads, and the broader MongoDB ecosystem
  • Develop advanced experience in multi-database application architecture, database coexistence, migrations, cloud-native deployment, and the operational considerations of partner products
  • Work across ISV products, technology stacks, industries, and deployment environments while building reusable architecture patterns and developing your technical influence and leadership
