RFA Engineering (www.rfamec.com) is an engineering service provider dedicated to delivering our clients with timely engineering support and expertise. We are seeking a growth-oriented candidate to become an integral part of our engineering team. The selected candidate will work with an experienced engineering staff using state-of-the-art engineering tools & processes. This position will be onsite at our client's Pontiac, IL facility working with their fuel injector systems.

Mechanical Test Engineer
Mechanical Test Engineer will support product development and validation activities for new and existing mechanical products. The selected candidate will work in a fast-paced team environment with a strong mix of hands-on laboratory testing and engineering analysis. Responsibilities will include developing and executing product testing, supporting new product introduction, creating and reviewing engineering documentation, coordinating analysis, and troubleshooting mechanical systems. This position provides an opportunity to work on high-visibility projects while developing a broad range of mechanical engineering and product validation skills.
Responsibilities
- Support new product development and product validation activities for mechanical components and systems.
- Develop, execute, and document mechanical testing to evaluate product performance, durability, and reliability.
- Create and review engineering drawings, models, specifications, test procedures, and technical documentation.
- Develop and maintain 3D models and detailed engineering drawings using Creo or similar computer-aided design software.
- Support design reviews, failure investigations, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis of mechanical systems and components.
- Develop and support Design Verification Plans and Reports, Failure Mode and Effects Analyses, and Advanced Product Quality Planning activities.
- Coordinate engineering analysis and use analysis results to support product design and validation decisions.
- Perform tolerance stack-ups, O-ring calculations, bolted joint analysis, and other mechanical engineering calculations.
- Work with suppliers and cross-functional engineering teams to support component development and product quality.
- Research and analyze design proposals, specifications, technical documentation, and test results to evaluate project feasibility and product performance.
- Communicate test results, engineering recommendations, and project status to engineering and cross-functional teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 2-4 years of mechanical engineering, product development, testing, or validation experience.
- Experience with mechanical design, engineering drawings, and three-dimensional computer-aided design.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, schematics, and test data.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to document and communicate technical findings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Creo or similar three-dimensional computer-aided design software.
- Experience supporting new product introduction and product development programs.
- Familiarity with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, Design Verification Plans and Reports, or Advanced Product Quality Planning.
- Experience with tolerance stack-up analysis, O-ring calculations, bolted joint analysis, or similar mechanical engineering calculations.
- Experience with mechanical testing, laboratory equipment, data collection, or product validation.
- Ability to balance hands-on testing with computer-based engineering work.
- Self-motivated and comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative engineering environment.
- Strong interest in developing practical, hands-on mechanical engineering skills.
Pay Range: commensurate with experience - $65,000-$90,000
