The Boeing Company is actively seeking an early to associate or mid-career Mechanical Systems Design Engineer - Drive Systems Specialtylocated in Ridley Park, PA.
The ideal candidate will join the Philadelphia Design Center Drive Systems team and support design, development, manufacturing and fielding of complex drive systems across the Boeing Enterprise. This team is engaged in developing drive systems for military development programs, future Vertical Lift Research and Development Projects, DARPA projects, and other commercial development programs. The team is responsible for providing on-time, technically sound, and executable solutions for applications related to transmissions, rotor and blade systems, and other mechanical systems.
As a Mechanical Systems Design Engineer / Drive System Design Engineer, you will be responsible for executing the development, maintenance, or modification of complex drive systems to support Boeing products and priorities.
Position Responsibilities: Your role will involve interfacing with various engineering capabilities and performing the following tasks:
- Engineering Definition Development: Develop engineering definitions for complex drive system data packages, including 3D Model Based Definition, functional analyses, simulations, manufacturing instructions, and supplier management support
- System Fabrication Support: Provide support during the fabrication process to ensure compliance with engineering requirements and specifications for drive systems
- Test Support: Develop verification and validation plans, evaluate test data, and validate drive system components and systems against design requirements and objectives
- Data Management: Utilize product data management tools, such as Teamcenter IPDM, for effective data management and documentation related to drive systems
- Technology Investigation: Investigate emerging technologies to develop concepts for future drive system designs that meet projected requirements
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Software for data analysis, modeling, reporting, and presentations.
- Strong communication skills
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. Final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience): (please see education and experience for the levels below)
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Aeronautical or Material Sciences)
- 1+ years experience in 3D Modeling Tools Experience: Proficiency in using 3D modeling tools such as SolidWorks, CATIA, NX, or similar software for drive system design and development
- 1+ years experience in GD&T Knowledge: Strong understanding and experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) of complex mechanical systems, specifically related to drive systems
- 1+ years experience in Microsoft Office Software: Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Software for data analysis, modeling, reporting, and presentations
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- Level 3 - Bachelor's degree and 5+ years' experience or Master's and 3+ years
- Drive System Design Experience: Demonstrated experience in drive system design, including knowledge of design principles, stress analysis and mechanical components.
- Proficiency in CATIA 3D Modeling software
- Ability to read and create 2D engineering drawings
- Experience with design, analysis and manufacturing of metallic components
- Strong communication skills

In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
