The Combat Mission Systems line of business within the Platforms & Services (P&S) Sector of BAE Systems is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented. As a leading global defense, security, and aerospace company, we offer a dynamic and challenging work environment where you can apply theoretical knowledge and develop practical skills. We are looking for a Mechanical Engineering intern to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment performing engineering tasks for one or more areas of CMS product lines. You will perform roles similar in nature to our entry-level engineers, applying basic engineering design, analytical theory, principles, techniques and practices for design and development of defense related product applications. This role provides hands-on experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, contributing to the design, development, and testing of mechanical components through 3D modeling in PTC Creo, technical documentation, and cross-functional collaboration to support system integration and manufacturing.
This internship is from May 2027 through August 2027, although earlier start dates may be accommodated. In this position, you will be supporting the Combat Mission Systems (CMS) Business at our Maple Grove, MN facility. Relocation will not be offered, and housing is not provided.
As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will:
- Be part of an engineering team assisting in design, development, and evaluation of mechanical components using fundamental engineering principles, theories and practices.
- Assist with the creation and documentation of 3D models and drawings using PTC Creo.
- Assist with the creation of, provide inputs to, and make revisions to technical documentation, reports, papers, or presentations.
- Support component, subassembly, subsystem, and system manufacturing, integration, and test activities.
- Maintain professional relationships with company employees, clients and customers, both internal and external.
- Communicate with intention and purpose to your team sharing progress and challenges as you successfully complete your assigned tasks.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited university in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent engineering field
- Completed the equivalent of at least the Junior year of undergraduate studies in an engineering program
- Basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of mechanical engineering or aerospace engineering fields
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
- Experience with Computer Aided Design software, such as PTC Creo, or equivalent
- Familiarity with MS Office applications: Outlook, Word, Excel
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Ability to research and apply mechanical or aerospace engineering principles and theories to solve engineering problems.
- Motivated self-starter with leadership skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Demonstrates sincere interest in engineering through previous experiences such as extracurricular activities, internships, projects, etc.
- Excellent problem solving skills, judgment, and analytical capability.
- Ability to complete assigned tasks in a hi-paced environment
- Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills
- Experience in Creo, AutoCAD, ANSYS, or MATLAB is a plus
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $49592 - $68993
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
Temporary employees generally are not eligible for BAE Systems benefits, but can elect to participate in the 401(k) savings plan. Temporary employees working 20+ hours per week are eligible for medical benefits, the employee assistance program, and business travel accident insurance.
