Job Description:
1.0 JOB TITLE: Design Engineer
FLSA Status: Exempt
JOB SUMMARY:
Design Engineer develops conveyor designs for use in high volume material handling equipment. The employee receives input from engineering team and sales, and provides design feedback, while working with cross functional teams to hand-off equipment to production and material flow teams. Candidate must have experience working in a dynamic engineering environment, must be good at multi-tasking, and real-time crisis management.

The Design Engineer reports to the Mechanical Engineering Manager.
4.0 KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are the Key Qualifications required:
- 5 years of design experience with electro-mechanical material handling systems.
- Skilled in the use of 3D modeling using Solidworks, AutoCAD or similar
- Hands-on approach, with technical experience in engineering, prototyping, electro-mechanical systems.
- Passion to learn about and explore modern technologies; ability to adapt quickly to a wide variety of tasks and engineering disciplines
- Proven ability to work independently under high pressure and comfortable working in dynamic environment
- Applied understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, as related to complex electro-mechanical assemblies and plant layout
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; motivated to both teach and learn from others in a highly technical organization
- Experience working with design, development, and implementation of conveyor projects. Preference in the material handling industry.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills; able to work several complex projects at the same time
- Strong ability in root cause failure analysis and corrective action planning
5.0 RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following are principal responsibilities of the SDE:
- Provide manufacturing support by answering any technical questions; troubleshoot, fix or recommend upgrades to Systec Plant and Equipment.
- Utilizing standard design practices, design parts handling conveyors from concept through manufacturing to finished working, tested solutions
- Creation of project related designs, such as schematics, layouts, and Packing Lists
- Make recommendations to management for tooling, software, equipment, and personnel acquisitions
- Maintain a back log/work load for all employees within the Engineering Department (designers, project managers, and panel shop personnel)
- Maintain communication with management throughout lifecycle of project – weekly meetings to update status of Engineering Checklist, Manufacturing schedule and design log; recommend changes to increase efficiency and/or reduce costs
- Provide support to field service technicians
- Create packing lists for Warranty Adjustments, Parts Adjustments, Manufacturing adjustments to be approved by management
- Project Management to include coordinate and insure the timely release of packing list releases for Mechanical, Electrical, and Installation, EDR’s; updating project progression lists; updating customer folders and modifying support manual as required.
- Communicate with customer, provide operational assistance, answer questions and troubleshoot as needed
- Verify completed Engineering Design Requests (EDRs)
- Quality Control Check off on equipment
- Update project check list(s) as required

6.0 EDUCATION:
- Mechanical Design Experience or BS in Mechanical Engineering
7.0 VALUABLE PRIOR WORK EXPERIENCE:
- Team player
- Working with cross-functional teams
- Hardware development experience
