Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join the Data Center Power and Control Team in Farmingdale, NY. The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for engineered-to-order (ETO) projects, utilizing various configurations of existing design platforms, ensuring that custom configurations of existing and new designs meet customer requirements and can be produced within cost constraints.

Responsibilities

What Will You Do?

  • Manage and create manufacturing packages for custom-configured cabinet assemblies
  • Develop Bills of Material and set component routings in ERP
  • Evaluate customer requirements outlined in various sales documents
  • Estimate engineering lead time required for all projects
  • Create 3D CAD assembly files from existing CAD models of previously designed components and accessories, configured per customer requirements
  • Design custom accessories in accordance with EIA-310 standards
  • Design manufacturing fixtures as defined by project requirements
  • Create detailed part, weldment, and assembly drawings and write and process ECNs
  • Create complete product structures with routings for the entire manufacturing package in ERP
  • Interface directly with all areas of production to support the progress and completion of projects
  • Support the production team in troubleshooting issues
  • Interface directly with regulatory agencies such as UL and assist in testing
  • Other duties as assigned 
Qualifications

Education: B.S. in Mechanical Engineering is required. 

Experience:

  • 1+ year of experience in mechanical engineering is required
  • Comprehensive knowledge of sheet metal-based product fabrication methods is preferred 

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Excellent project management skills and demonstrated ability to make timely and effective decisions, handle multiple priorities, and effectively delegate responsibilities to ensure high-quality service is delivered on time and within budget are required.
  • Effective independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize, and organize a diversified workload.
  • Strong computer skills (word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, e-mail, and meeting management) are required; SolidWorks is preferred.
  • Must be highly collaborative and able to work in a team-based environment to promote cohesion, trust, and open communication with teams, peers, and all business partners.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization. Must be an effective listener, able to maintain focus, extract necessary information, and validate understanding of the information.
