The Mechanical Engineer’s (ME) work is critical in the Engineering process. They are responsible for taking designs from concept through production by creating parts and assemblies and compiling them into complete Production-ready 3D models and 2D drawings. Accuracy and completeness must be maintained through all levels of design in order to provide complete part and assembly Bill of Materials (BOMs) for Purchasing and 2D drawings for the Production teams. All steps within the ME’s construction must meet or exceed Nomad Global Communication Solutions’ standards of excellence.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Create complete 3D models of each project, including top levels assemblies, sub-assemblies, and parts as needed, which require:
    • All assigned properties for use within
    • Complete and accurate
    • Accurate and manufacturing-ready drawings, and design with optimized cost, strength and
    • Communication with Electrical Engineers (EE) to identify and resolve differences between Electrical schematics, Mechanical drawings, and client requirements.
  • Communication with IT Engineering to identify and integrate networking and communication
  • Use FEA to analyze parts, perform stress calculations, create tests to verify results, document analysis, and change parts as needed to optimize the design.
  • Research, read, and understand outside standards such as MI, RVIA code, SAE,
  • Create, implement, supervise, and document tests verifying designs meet customer
  • Complete all analyses, documentation, and drawings required for Production within established time frames as agreed upon by the Operations team.
  • Be responsible for ensuring that the correct documents are available to the correct teams in the
  • Communicate with other Engineers, Project Management, Production Leads to identify and implement improvement opportunities at the project level, as well as a company level.
  • Communicate with vendors and clients to troubleshoot designs, get information on new designs, and obtain specifications/drawings/models of components.
  • Analyze proposed Change Orders and communicate their assessment of the proposed Change Orders:
    • Affect upon the project’s original design
    • Affect upon the project’s timeline and
    • Estimated engineering time for completion of the
    • Feasibility given the project’s parameters, as well as other project demands upon
    • Propagate any downstream revisions to analyses, documentation, and drawings in a timely
  • Assist Sales & Marketing by creating 3D models and 2D drawings that can be used in proposals to
  • Track and record work hours for each specific project
  • Be willing to travel on a limited basis, as needed by
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by

 BASIC KNOWLEDGE DESIRED:

  • Knowledge of:
    • the practical application of engineering science and technology, including applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
    •  raw material, production processes (welding, machining, grinding/cutting), quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of
  • physical principles, laws, their interrelationships, and applications to understanding fluid, material, and atmospheric dynamics, and mechanical, electrical, electromagnetic, atomic and sub-atomic structures and processes.
  • Previous knowledge gained from experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD), SolidWorks
  • Must be comfortable and knowledgeable using Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrate understanding and application of Nomad Core

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Regular use of hands and arms to manipulate, handle, feel, reach, or operate objects, tools, or controls. Ability to stand and sit for extended periods as required by task assignment.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and sitting throughout the Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds Assistance required for anything heavier than 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus and distinguish colors, necessary for both office tasks and production
  • Must have the physical stamina to adapt to varying workload demands and stand or sit for prolonged periods depending on the specific tasks of the day.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work is split between a partially environmentally controlled indoor manufacturing area and a professional office Temperatures in the manufacturing area can fluctuate between 60°F and 100°F, typically maintained around 70°F in the office.
  • Exposure to varying noise levels from moderate in the office to loud on the production floor; safety hearing devices provided as needed.
  • Possible exposure to household and commercial chemicals with adherence to safety protocols outlined in Safety Data Sheets (SDS) Safety glasses and closed-toed shoes are mandatory when on the production floor.
  • Regular interaction with team members, guests, and clients in a professional setting. Everyday workwear must be business casual/smart casual and appropriate for the office environment.
  • Use of additional personal protective equipment (PPE) such as respirators or protective coveralls may be necessary for specific tasks on the production floor.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited
  • Must have 5 years or more of verifiable work history as a Mechanical Engineer in a manufacturing
  • Must have experience with SolidWorks modeling, drawings, and file
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed may be substituted for the above requirements.
