WHAT YOU GET TO DO

The engineer is responsible for detailing and clarifying third party equipment with new or existing vendors. This position requires excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), strong analytical skills, and a fundamental knowledge of warehousing/distribution logistics concepts.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Primarily work on projects for final engineering (>90%)
    • Summarizing goals of the project with solution engineering and sales
    • Verify the requirements concerning technical feasibility
    • Determine if any developments on KNAPP side are necessary
    • Coordinate with other departments to ensure requirements are met and information is spread properly
    • Clarify if customer has additional requirements and if there are any additional codes that we need to comply with
    • Design workstations (KNAPP ones and buyouts)
    • Define the integration requirements of 3rd party equipment, which are in the scope of KNAPP or the customer
    • Conduct engineering according to KNAPP Standards
    • Evaluate project schedule, set priorities, and escalate issues
    • Hold regular engineering meetings with necessary parties
    • Verify and approve quotes or approval documents from vendors
    • If KNAPP material is necessary, determine, check, and release it into production
    • Create permit drawings/documents
    • Create installation documents and hand them over to installation team
    • Oversee 3rd party equipment installations (occasional)
    • Create as-built drawings and update project documents accordingly
    • Ensure that final documents are saved in the accurate places
    • Help improve standards within the department to facilitate increases in engineering efficiency
  • Occasionally work on projects in the sales phase (<10% of time)
    • Guide and supervise solution/sales engineers
    • Perform technical analysis regarding the feasibility of new projects
    • Support generation of cost/technical proposals
    • Support requests for quotes for 3rd party vendors and subcontractors

WHAT YOU HAVE

  • 0-3 years’ experience with specifying, engineering and approving standard material handling equipment such as packaging machines, carton handling machines, spiral conveyors, flow racks, tote handling machines, totes, work stations, platforms, mezzanines, compressors, belt curves, flex conveyors, telescopic belt conveyor, etc.
  • Ability to work independently without daily supervision
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle vendor negotiations internally and exter-nally from a technical standpoint
  • Strong time management & organizational skills
  • Excellent math, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • BS Degree in ME, EE, or IE
  • Computer Skills
    • Strong experience utilizing CAD tools is a hard requirement
    • Proficient in the Microsoft office suite with focus on Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint

Working Conditions and Environment:

  • Standard travel is approximately 20%; however, it can be up to 50% if required by projects
  • Ability to travel by air both domestically (US) and internationally (primarily Austria and other parts of Europe, as well as Canada)
  • Professional office etiquette is required at all times
  • Ability to lift and carry 50lbs
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Passport or ability to obtain a passport

  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds
  • Authorization to work in the United States
