Job Description:

Analytical Mechanics Associates, Inc. (AMA) of Hampton, VA is actively seeking a several candidates with either Mechanical Engineer, Mechanical Designer or Mechanical Drafter experience in spaceflight hardware. The qualified candidates will provide technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems surrounding the modeling, analysis, manufacture, and testing of flight project components and mechanisms to be utilized for both research and spaceflight. This position will support the Research, Science and Engineering Services (RSES) contract onsite at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA. 

The salary range for these positions is $90,000 to $124,000, commensurate with education and experience. 

US citizenship or Permanent Residency is required.

These roles are contingent upon being awarded the work.

Job Descriptions:

Mechanical Engineer:

The qualified candidates will be responsible for the development and review of CAD models and drawings, effective communication of said designs, work with structural analysts and program management to iterate on designs, guiding the components through the manufacturing process, and overseeing the assembly, integration, and testing of designed systems. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Generate CAD design models and engineering drawings of components to be used on spaceflight hardware 

  • Perform analytical sizing activities on designed hardware 

  • Develop reports, presentations and other documentation 

  • Generate assembly/integration and test procedures 

  • Knowledge of acceptance standards for spaceflight hardware applications 

  • Attend meetings and teleconferences and be ready to discuss issues seen in design, analysis, qualification and acceptance plans and reports 

  • Guide developed hardware through the manufacturing process 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree and with a minimum of 5 years of experience; or a Master's degree and 1 year of experience. 

  • Experience with Parametric CAD software for component design and initial sizing. 

  • Demonstrated experience in hardware design, analysis, and testing. 

  • Ability to work independently under general direction only. 

  • Candidates must possess strong written and oral communication skills 

  • US citizenship or Permanent Residence. 

Desired Qualifications:  

  • Demonstrated experience with Creo Parametric is highly desired. 

  • Expertise in component and mechanism design, analysis, and testing in the aerospace industry. 

Mechanical Designer:

Designs and develops mechanical systems, assemblies, and packaging layouts for spacecraft, nuclear power, propulsion, and support hardware. Uses CAD tools to create 3D models, conduct design trade studies, prepare engineering drawings, and ensure designs meet requirements for mass, volume, thermal performance, manufacturability, structural integrity, and spaceflight environments. Collaborates closely with engineers, analysts, and fabrication teams to mature concepts from preliminary design through integration and test. 

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Design Technology, or related field. Proficient in Creo/Windchill. 

 

 

Mechanical Drafter:

Produces and maintains detailed engineering drawings, CAD models, schematics, bills of material, and configuration-controlled documentation. Converts engineering concepts and design changes into accurate fabrication and assembly drawings, ensuring compliance with NASA drafting standards, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and configuration management requirements. Works with designers and engineers to support manufacturing, inspection, integration, and testing activities. 

Associate's degree or technical certificate in Mechanical Drafting, CAD/CADD Technology, Engineering Graphics, or related field. Proficient in Creo/Windchill.
