Job Summary:

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to assist in the continued development of new products. The position will be part of a medium sized R&D team working alongside the current Mechanical Design Engineers. The department is responsible for creating and designing a range of electronic underwater products that are used across the globe.
Teledyne Valeport are market leaders in their specialist field. This has been down to the companies drive and commitment to achieve effective and innovative products that challenge and offer new designs to their existing marketplace.
The role is to work on the design and development of the mechanical aspects of the next generation of products, for both existing and future markets. Working with 3D solid modelling, the successful candidate will develop designs and produce technical drawings for manufacture. Other aspects of the CAD facilities will need to be used, such as 3D photo-rendering and rapid prototyping. The role has potential to develop technically to include FEA and CFD design simulation. The Mechanical Design Engineer will also provide mechanical problem solving support to the production department.

The role will suit someone with a practical mechanical aptitude, good attention to detail and an interest in developing design ideas using current CAD technology. The successful applicant will also have good interpersonal skills as liaising with colleagues, suppliers, sub-contractors and customers are essential activities.
 

Detailed Description:
 

In order to be considered for the role of Senior Mechanical Design Engineer you will be able to evidence:

  • A level 5/6 qualification in a Mechanical Engineering based subject (e.g. HND/Degree)
  • At least 1 year of experience in a relevant role
  • Competency in 3D solid modelling and detail drafting for manufacture
  • An ability to self-manage
  • An ability to communicate with internal staff, suppliers and end customers

Additional preferences for the role include:

  • Competency in SolidWorks 3D solid modelling and drafting
  • Experience of building complex assemblies, machining or fitting work
  • Experience in working with moulded products, resins, plastics, adhesives or optomechanical equipment design

The position will come with product awareness training, use of the latest design technology, in-house and external test facilities, a supporting R&D team and above all job satisfaction of seeing designs turn into manufactured products in short lead times.
