Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Description SummaryWe are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design, manufacture, testing and deployment of new products. This role will contribute to a broad range of mechanical engineering activities across the product development lifecycle, working as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver practical, high-quality engineering solutions.
The successful candidate will bring a strong foundation in mechanical component and assembly design, clear technical communication skills and a collaborative approach to project delivery. Key Responsibilities

• Support project teams with a broad range of mechanical engineering activities across the design, manufacture, testing and deployment of new products.
• Contribute to concept design, including ideation, refinement and down-selection of solutions.
• Model components and assemblies in 3D CAD.
• Analyse component designs to identify and mitigate potential failure modes and assess tolerance stack-ups.
• Produce component and assembly drawings, including GD&T, for manufacture and assembly in line with established processes.
• Support rapid prototyping and testing of components and assemblies using a variety of manufacturing methods, including in-house 3D printing.
• Generate technical documentation to communicate designs, decisions and test outcomes clearly to project team members.
• Communicate technical information clearly and effectively through meetings, digital communications, reports and day-to-day collaboration.
• Communicate technical functionality and requirements effectively with colleagues from non-technical disciplines.
• Travel occasionally to GE MRO sites to support customer research and product testing. Travel may occasionally extend over multiple days, though rarely more than one working week.
• Undertake other reasonable duties consistent with the role and business needs.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Experience in the design and specification of mechanical components and assemblies.
• Experience using CAD software.
• Experience producing manufacturing drawings.
• Experience carrying out physical analysis of components, including use of Excel and FEA tools.
• Experience in design for manufacture.
• Experience in component and assembly verification and validation through testing.
• Basic experience in risk evaluation.
• Basic experience producing technical documentation.
• Basic experience using workshop tools, including hand tools and basic power tools.
• Good general computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
