The Mechanical Design position is responsible for working individually, with a local team or global engineering team on product design which satisfy customer specifications. This process includes design, product validation, completing documentation and executing launch items for production. Complete all related drawings, documentations and release in internal systems.General Responsibilities • Leverages engineering fundamentals, and org to make sound decisions on complex technical issues • Competitive analysis (benchmarking patent research, cost estimates etc.) • Strongly influence design for manufacturability • Detailed understanding of market and implications for business • Proactively challenge and drives the organization to deliver improved quality and performance related to engineering design • Product Strategy participant and driver • Maintain product documentation (drawings and specifications) and lessons learned • Direct interaction with customers to solicit product specifications requirements, schedule expectations and budget • Corrosion research and welding characterization • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, materials, mechanics, fluid, thermo and heat transfer • Advanced knowledge of basic electrical circuits, microelectronic assembly, statistical methods, process control fundamentals and product test processes • Familiarity with manufacturing methods – welding, brazing, soldering, adhesive bonding, machining, stamping, molding and forming. Basic knowledge of a core manufacturing processes (Calibration, Final Function Transfer, leak testing, welding/soldering, adhesive and gel dispensing) Experience / Qualifications • A university degree required (i.e. Bachelors degree) or equivalent relevant work experience. • Must be a team player able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands • Strong communication skills; oral, written and presentation • Strong organization, planning and time management skills to achieve results • Strong personal and professional ethical values and integrity • Holds self-accountable to achieving goals and standards • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) • Strong interpersonal & collaboration skills to work effectively with all levels of the organization including suppliers and/or external customers

Additional Responsibilities

1. CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT:

Work with the Product design, Process engineering teams and Equipment vendors to develop manufacturing concepts to meet the product assembly and test requirements. This may include prototype development to mitigate process risks.

2. MECHANICAL DESIGN:

Provide accurate written design instructions. Conduct design reviews to validate the concept, design completeness and conformance to standards, manufacturability and cost effectiveness of the design. Will be responsible for the selection of all mechanical components and work with electrical engineers to define control requirements and bill of materials.

3. SUPPORT FOR ASSEMBLY:

Support the assembly craft team and update documentation to reflect all corrections and improvements done during fabrication and assembly.

4. DEBUG:

Work with the controls engineering and build teams to bring the machine to functional condition per the design intent.

5. QUALIFICATION:

Conduct evaluation of the machine to validate conformance to the specification before delivering to the Process engineering team for final qualification. Support Process Engineering during qualification and document all the required procedures for gauging, set-up and machine details

6. SHIPMENT and INSTALLATION:

Manage the logistics of the equipment transfer to the end user. Support for installation at the receiving facility.

7. ONGOING SUPPORT:

Provide ongoing support to the manufacturing operations globally to facilitate continuous improvement (Yield & OEE) and feedback lessons learned for future development.

Experience / Qualifications

1. Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 5+ years experience in manufacturing environment preferred

2. Proficiency with SolidWorks CAD software is required.

Understanding of manufacturing processes, i.e. Welding, crimping, riveting, soldering, dispensing, stamping, forming, molding, machining, etc.

3. Experience in mechanical design of equipment and understanding of mechanisms.

4. Preferred experience in the design of

a. Pneumatic controls.

b. High pressure pneumatic systems (up to 5000 PSI)

c. Hydraulic control systems (up to 60k PSI)

d. Precision motion control

e. Thermal systems

f. Cam systems

5. Familiarity with mechanical components brands and types.

6. Experience/involvement in building and debugging equipment.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent relevant work experience
