The objective of this position is to independently support the full product life cycle of drilling tools by contributing to new product development, sustaining engineering, design analysis, testing, validation, documentation, and field support. The Design Engineer II will apply advanced mechanical engineering and 3D CAD skills to develop reliable designs, resolve complex technical issues, collaborate across disciplines, and drive continuous product and process improvements.
Responsibilities- Provide engineering support for matters of a complex nature which require innovation and the use of a wide variety of established or new engineering methods and techniques.
- Utilize advanced engineering calculations related to specific design or analytical projects.
- Create design layouts and detailed component drawings.
- Create component and system level test plans and test fixtures.
- Perform validation testing and conduct design iterations as required.
- Develop accurate and complete documentation of data and project results in a timely manner.
- Write reports which draw appropriate conclusions from project results.
- Recommend purchase of material and equipment after thorough analysis of available sources.
- Work with personnel in other departments and disciplines to complete project assignments.
- Maintains and expands on current knowledge of industry trends and new technologies.
- Complete assignments using established design tools and procedures without significant supervision.
- Develop action plans for new projects defined by supervisor.
- Consistently produce quality work and recommend areas for improvement.
- All other duties as assigned.
- B.S. or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum 5 years of related design knowledge/experience is preferred.
- Experience with downhole drilling tools is preferred.
- Candidate must be proficient in SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD software and able to create and/or modify complex models, parts, and assemblies.
- FEA experience is preferred.
- A successful candidate must be a self-starter and be comfortable with hands on assembly and testing.
Skills Required
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum five years of related mechanical design experience
- Experience with downhole drilling tools
- Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD software, including complex models, parts, and assemblies
- Finite Element Analysis experience
