WHAT YOU’LL DO

Teach for America Florida is looking for an experienced leader passionate about developing and mobilizing Florida’s more than 1,600 Teach For America alumni to make a dramatic, positive impact on our students, families, teachers, and communities. The Managing Director, Statewide Alumni & Network Strategy will set the vision and strategy for statewide and local Teach For America alumni initiatives and programs, manage a team of three individual contributors to bring this work to life, and lead Jacksonville’s alumni work.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about Teach For America’s alumni work, developing and executing a bold vision and strategy, Jacksonville’s alumni network and its potential, and managing others to ambitious outcomes. You are an organized, natural self-starter with a strong orientation to influencing others to achieve outcomes and mobilizing groups to meet goals. You bring strong emotional intelligence and a willingness to ideate and leverage those skills within and outside the organization to ensure TFA Florida’s alumni and broader network is working to make a difference for students, families, schools, and communities.

The goal of this role is to activate, both as an individual and team leader, develop, and strategically mobilize our broad alumni network on the state and local levels, including leading Jacksonville, to support our broader goals.

WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

Setting Strategy & Direction (35%)

  • Set vision and strategy for statewide and regional alumni and broader Teach For America network, including talent matching and coalition building

  • Own external relationships that align with that vision

  • Create the strategy and serve as the lead for the Jacksonville alumni and broader Teach For America Jacksonville network, including but not limited to developing events, experiences, and engagements to strengthen the network and achieve broader priorities

Team Leadership (35%)

  • Develop and maintain a team that accomplishes targeted outcomes aligned to high-impact alumni development and initiatives, as well as strengthens the overall Teach For America network in our three regions

  • Manage and support team members to develop alumni-facing events, development, and experiences aligned with the broader vision

  • Work closely with the Senior Managing Director, Head of Programs & Impact to ensure a strong continuum from the corps members to alumni experience

  • Work with national team members to align our regional priorities and strategies with the organization’s broader priorities

Statewide Initiatives (20%)

  • Design and lead statewide alumni initiatives, including Alumni Steering Committees, Prism, The Collective

  • Work alongside the alumni team members to develop and expand upon our innovative fellowship and development opportunities

Agile Teamwork (10%)

  • Operate with flexibility to support the team as needed and complete other duties as assigned

  • Willingness to travel to other geographies as needed

A WEEK IN THE LIFE

Over the course of any week, the Managing Director, Statewide Alumni & Network Strategy will spend time: 

  • Executing the vision and strategy for the statewide and local alumni networks to bring the organization closer to its goals and priorities

  • Leading the Jacksonville alumni network by planning strategic events, meeting with key alumni and like-minded organizations, and attending relevant engagements on behalf of the Jacksonville network

  • Supporting and developing a team of three individual contributors to execute alumni strategy in Central Florida and Miami-Dade, as well as our One Florida Alumni Fellowship

  • Designing and leading statewide experiences including but not limited to Alumni Steering Committees, Prism, and The Collective

  • Collaborating with teammates to strategically deploy alumni talent to support other network members and make an impact as leaders

YOUR EXPERIENCE

Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role (minimum qualifications): 

  • At least six years of experience in setting vision and direction, leading teams, project management, and/or program management

  • At least two years of classroom teaching experience

  • Significant experience managing others and building coalitions to reach ambitious goals

  • Ability to develop and cultivate relationships with diverse external collaborators and support them in contributing to a shared goal

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence

  • Able to speak to and model our core values and commitment to racial equity and belonging

  • Track record of getting results while leading multiple large-scale projects simultaneously

BONUS (preferred qualifications) 

  • Strong existing knowledge of Teach For America’s current strategic direction and the education and political landscape in Florida

  • Existing experience living and working in the Jacksonville area

  • Teach For America corps member and/or staff experience

  • History of engagement and involvement with Teach For America programs, events, and opportunities

  • Prior experience working in politics including but not limited to political campaign roles, legislative aiding, serving as an elected official’s press secretary/communications officer

The Florida landscape is broad and diverse - our team operates with agility and nuance as we execute work across the state in our three geographies: Central Florida, Jacksonville, and Miami-Dade. The Programs and Impact team works closely with the Operations and Capabilities team and central Teach For America teams, including the Recruitment and Ignite teams and other regions.

YOUR COMPENSATION

The applicable salary range for each U.S.-based role is based on where the employee works and is aligned to one of 3 tiers according to a cost of labor index in that geographic area. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role. The expected salary ranges for this role are set forth below. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Tier A - $90,000 - $134,800
