About this opportunity:
Are you ready to work on a multidisciplinary project on the intersection of artificial intelligence, communication, control, and computation for cloud-controlled robots within a leading industrial research group? This master's thesis opportunity is offered by the Cyber-Physical Systems research area at Ericsson Research, in the Decision & Control team. The project tackles key challenges in building scalable solutions for offloading data from multi-sensor robots and control the robot over the network with particular focus on the advanced methods from artificial intelligence, communication, control, and computation domains for robotic applications. The project will start in early 2027 and will last for six months. This is an applied research opportunity at the intersection of devices, cloud/edge computing, and networks where you can demonstrate your ideas, energy, and skills to shape future connected devices and machines.
What will you do:
• Research and develop methods on top of the advanced 5G/6G features for robotic systems.
• Develop models and algorithms for real-time data streaming, managing, decision-making, and optimization in multi-sensor robotic systems.
• Integrate perception, planning, and control modules with mobile networks and edge/cloud compute resources.
• Design and run experiments and performance evaluations on cloud-controlled robots in mobile network environments within Kista Innovation Networks to assess advanced 5G/6G features.
• Compare your solution against existing approaches to evaluate effectiveness and trade-offs.
The skills you bring:
• MSc studies in either of Computer Science, Mechatronic, Robotics, Telecommunications, Control engineering or a related field.
• Experience with robot autonomy stack ( ROS 2, control, perception, SLAM, planning, etc.).
• Hands-on experience with robotic systems, sensors (camera, LiDAR, etc.) or similar.
• Knowledge and practical experience with ML/AI methods and their application in robotics.
• Programming skills in Python and/or C++ .
• Ability to formulate research problems and solve them independently as well as collaboratively.
• Analytical skills, quick learning ability, and the willingness to share knowledge with others.
• Excellent written and spoken English and good presentation skills.
