Master Thesis - Methods for evaluating conformal coating for Printed Circuit Boards in greenspace and forest applications

We are now looking for master students within Material Science in Polymers, Electronics Design/Production, Applied Physics, Production Engineering, or related fields that are interested in doing their thesis project at our Supply Quality Assurance Department.

As Husqvarna is on the rapid electrification journey, it also means that we need to have deeper knowledge in fields of material used in electronic assemblies. One of them is conformal coating, used as environmental protection for printed circuit boards. We would like to set up a thesis work on master level to investigate how to set the right requirement specification and how to test the performance of various conformal coatings.

The objective 

The objective of this thesis is to explore the conformal coating for PCBA’s. To test the verification process, and in combination with existing standard methods, and through this develop a test method to validate the performance of the conformal coating for outdoor application to be used in gardens and forests. The outcome of the thesis is a proposal of test methodology and inputs for requirement specification.

Proper area of education 

Master within Material Science in Polymers, Electronics Design/Production, Applied Physics, Production Engineering, or related fields.
 

The thesis will include work such as
You will be investigating product applications to map requirements, dig into behaviors of materials, set up test methods and also validate these, where compliance to chemical compliance and cost are aspects.

The lead of the thesis work will be by Supplier Quality Assurance at Husqvarna, and you will engage with many internal R&D Departments and Labs. Moreover, external contacts will be with suppliers of materials and our Electronics Manufacturer sub-contractors.

The thesis will be done mainly at Husqvarna’s site in Huskvarna, meaning you need to be on site on a regular basis to meet stakeholders and conduct testing.
