Job Summary
The Master Scheduler is responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing the master production schedule to support customer demand, production efficiency, and inventory objectives. This position manages forecasts, production planning, and material flow to maximize customer service, inventory performance, and manufacturing capacity. The Master Scheduler collaborates closely with Sales, Customer Service, Operations, and Procurement to ensure production plans align with business goals and may support or lead the Sales, Inventory, and Operations Planning (S&OP) process.
Duties/Responsibilities
• Develop and maintain an accurate master production schedule that balances customer demand, production capacity, inventory levels, and resource availability.
• Analyze customer forecasts, historical demand, and sales trends to develop production plans and improve forecast accuracy.
• Plan, monitor, and track monthly shipping objectives while ensuring production schedules support customer delivery requirements.
• Coordinate production schedules based on customer orders, material availability, labor resources, equipment capacity, and operational priorities.
• Monitor material movement throughout the manufacturing process and adjust schedules to address production delays, material shortages, or changing customer requirements.
• Collaborate with Procurement, Production, Customer Service, Sales, and Operations to resolve scheduling conflicts and ensure material availability.
• Optimize inventory levels by balancing raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods while minimizing excess inventory.
• Utilize ERP/MRP systems to maintain accurate production schedules, inventory transactions, and planning data.
• Generate reports and analyze production, inventory, and scheduling performance to identify trends and recommend process improvements.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives related to production planning, scheduling accuracy, inventory optimization, and operational efficiency.
• Participate in or lead Sales, Inventory, and Operations Planning (S&OP) activities as assigned.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities
• Strong knowledge of production scheduling, capacity planning, inventory management, and manufacturing operations.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to interpret demand forecasts and translate them into executable production plans.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple departments.
• Ability to prioritize competing demands and adapt quickly in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
• Experience using ERP/MRP systems; SAP experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of Sales, Inventory, and Operations Planning (S&OP) processes is preferred.
Education and Experience
• Associate degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, or a related field required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in production scheduling, production planning, inventory control, or manufacturing operations.
• Experience working in a manufacturing environment is required.
• APICS/ASCM CPIM, CSCP, or similar professional certification is preferred.
• Experience using SAP or comparable ERP/MRP systems is strongly preferred.
