Schedule: Onsite Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

A Brief Summary of This Position:

The Master Scheduler is responsible for developing and managing the master production schedule in order to balance effectively the customer demands and supply capacity.  Schedule is segmented by daily, weekly and monthly buckets.  Planning horizon for this position is 6 – 12 months.  Position responsibilities include planning, scheduling and coordinating the master production schedule by reviewing and releasing work orders, inter-site orders, and supplier schedules in accordance with Material Requirements Planning (MRP).  This position is responsible for aligning resources with demand based on capacity planning and shop floor control principles.  Position releases and expedites purchase orders and supplier scheduled orders according to existing strategy and previously negotiated prices. This position manages consigned supplier inventory, work-in-process inventory (WIP), and finished goods inventory.  Inventory management includes utilization of Inventory Quality Ratio (IQR) tools as well as QAD WIP adjustment tools.  Reporting on production and supplier progress to goals is required.  Creating and executing any required action plans to close gaps.  Demonstration of the core values of the Valmont Way is also required.

Essential Functions:

  • Create Supplier Schedules to communicate long-term planning demands to suppliers
  • Evaluate MRP requirements and Pull signals to create Purchase Orders for value stream fabricated and raw materials to satisfy take time
  • Analyze requirements and release “consigned” items from supplier.  Coordinate delivery of material to Valley and McCook manufacturing facilities, subcontractor, or outside farm-out supply.
  • Monitor off-site levels of “consigned” inventory.  Work to minimize excess, or shortages, of material needs.
  • Source and request quotes for new material, or new suppliers for farm-out product.  Coordinate with Global Purchasing Manager any changes to supply source.
  • Investigate material usage and availability.  Recommend changes to Engineering for review and implementation.
  • Coordinate rejected material activities through the department.
  • Reconcile invoicing discrepancies.  Periodically review invoice pricing for compliance with agreed upon terms and prices.
  • Review ECN’s (Engineering Change Notice) for new or change to existing materials.  Coordinate transition to new material and manage inventory levels
  • Identify, negotiate, and resolve conflicts with respect to material and capacity availability and order-promising integrity.
  • Maintain planned scheduling parameters, such as lead-times, lot sizes, safety stocks, delivery times and order file data for all scheduled items.
  • Create a level supply schedule that satisfies customer demand with optimum inventory levels and resource utilization as dictated by division policy.
  • Assist demand management in setting priorities when demand outstrips the division’s supply of products or the resources necessary to build the requested product
  • Update supermarket loop material amounts using QAD workbench and Kanban Processes.
  • Work with sales, marketing, and manufacturing to better understand competitive lead times.  Seek ways to reduce internal and external lead times.
  • Produce shop schedules that have both validity (they meet or exceed customer demands) and integrity (they can be executed by the shop)
  • Conduct rough-cut capacity planning as well as departmental capacity planning.
  • Summarize daily and weekly master schedules for released and firm planned orders and compare these to the production plan to ensure that the master schedule is within S&OP policy.
  • Respond in a timely manner to significant action messages generated by QAD
  • This position reports to the Production and Inventory Control Manager and has no direct reports

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field OR Associate’s degree with 3+ years of experience OR 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • APICS CPIM, CFPIM, SCOR-P or CSCP certification, or successfully complete certification within 18 months of hire date
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing techniques
  • Strong attention to detail and quality of work
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management or related field is preferred
  • Prior experience setting up and planning with a Kanban pull system
  • Demonstrated abilities in visual scheduling and inventory optimization
  • Prior experience with master scheduling utilizing production family methodologies
  • Leads by example and earns the respect and trust of co-workers, customer, and other stakeholders
  • Sets aggressive targets, accepts consequences of actions, and holds others accountable
  • Thinks globally about the entire business and committed to supporting the needs and goals of an integrated global organization
  • An understanding of priorities and balances short-term and long-term requirements
