Position Summary:

The Marketing Manager, Technical Innovation plays a strategic role in creating (and enhancing) Brand messaging for Customers (Pet Owners, Farmers, Veterinarians and Channel Partners) as well as internal stake holders. Working across the entire Portfolio and in close alignment with Commercial leaders, the incumbent uses creativity, technical expertise and a passion for the industry, to drive value creation that has direct impact on Commercial objectives. A critical element of the role requires that the incumbent ensures full compliance to Elanco code of conduct and all related functional policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver product and disease-state marketing communication aligned to local and global Brand Plans.
  • Evaluating existing Portfolio, reimagine product positioning, product claims, channel choices and overall commercial execution bringing new ideas to the table and expanding on identified opportunities.
  • Serve as medical lead in the development of key data summaries and medical presentations to support brands.
  • Maintain and build a network of KOLs, organizing ad boards and maintaining a scientific speaker’s bureau to support future launches.
  • Assist in the execution of yearly international and local brand plans.
  • Work closely with technical consultants, marketing colleagues and sales to collect feedback, field expertise and provide scientific brand updates.
  • Proactively gather market intelligence and prepare and communicate internal response strategies.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with major veterinary associations/organisations.
  • Collaborate with global Subject Matter Experts in growing own and affiliate knowledge base.
  • Sometimes lead and other times, provide support with identification, prioritization and coordination of post approval studies with appropriate cross-functional individuals, ensuring compliance with Elanco and Industry regulations and standards.
  • Develop promotional materials and implement brand strategies.
  • Develop and implement strategic category and brand activities for sales teams. Co-ordinate the development of technical product presentations to a variety of audiences.
  • Provide technical support at veterinary conferences, trade show and support of field sales initiatives.
  • Represent Marketing on various cross-functional teams including project teams, market research, new products planning, manufacturing and commercial teams
  • Mastery of and compliance with approval requirements according to Elanco policies and procedures
  • Promote the company and product to KOLs and veterinary students within universities and other institutions.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Degree in Veterinary Medicine
  • 3+ years’ experience as a practicing veterinarian
  • MBA or Marketing qualification is preferred
  • Full alignment to Elanco values and Cultural Pillars

  • Business acumen, with experience of managing OPEX and forecasting.
  • Strong self-organizational skills
  • Good project management skills
  • Strong Communication skills: verbal, written and interpersonal
  • Ability to make decisions within context of uncertainty / ambiguity
  • Matrix management and collaboration skills
  • Ability to translate technical messages into commercial talking points (keep it simple).
  • Technical writing skills and ability to adapt technical information for non-technical audience
  • Experience in working effectively with teams and various functional areas such as regulatory, research and development, finance, customer service, and business development.

Local (across South Africa) and occasional international travel required.
