Job Summary
Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements (home and host), Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Absa Policies and Policy Standards. Understand and manage risks and risk events (incidents) relevant to the role. This role is to assist on oversight of Market, Liquidity, Capital Risk on behalf of the KRO and CRO.
Job Description
Risk Analysis and Control
- Where required, work with Head of Department and Centre in the maintenance of country specific Liquidity Risk, Capital risk, Market Risk Frameworks and Policies and standards.
- Implement new controls as may be required by regulations, the Group, relevant projects or other stakeholders.
- Review and recommend (if appropriate) improvements Liquidity, Capital and Market Standards and other documents to KRO, in-country CRO. Aim is to provide innovative solutions, for example suggesting improvements in the way resources are allocated.
- Assist the Market Risk Manager on providing commentaries for movements in Market Risk to SARB or Bank of Mauritius or Group.
- Assist the Market Risk Manager in liaising with Group on queries and embedment of new controls/reporting requirements.
- Ensure compliance with the Capital Risk, Liquidity Risk and Market Risk Frameworks and policies, highlighting to the Market Risk Manager where there are potential gaps.
- Assist Markets where simulations are required prior to bidding at auctions.
- Update new limits within reporting and packs where limit changes occur.
- Participate in market and treasury risk limit review at least once a year, but as often as required.
- Report on and monitor market risk exposures against predefined limits on a daily and timely basis. Escalate to Market Risk Manager as soon as identified where triggers are reached or breaches occur.
Project support
- Active involvement in regulatory or general projects within Market Risk or Treasury Risk e.g. automation initiatives.
- Provide support on other technical activities of the Markets/Treasury team as required.
Relationship Management
- Provide input to key Group initiatives
- Liaise with Internal Audit, External Audit on relevant audits
- Liaise with Governance and Control team on relevant conformance reviews
- Proactively take on additional tasks as requested by the Market Risk Manager or CRO.
- Continually interact with Front Office staff to discuss risk profile and key risks
- Build strong internal (Market Risk) and external (Front Office and other Infrastructure areas) relationships, to build synergies and efficiencies
- Manage business needs and expectations
- Understand and manage risks and risk events (incidents) in the role thereby contributing to the adherence to the Absa Risk and Control Framework. Complete all mandatory training as required
Preferred Education
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Risk Management, Econometrics, Economics or Accounting with at least 1 year of Risk and or Treasury related experience
- Very good understanding of bank products and their inherent risks for clients and the Bank
Preferred Experience
- Practical risk management experience in Market Risk is preferred
- Good understanding of current and future regulatory environment and ability to translate that into requirements for risk frameworks and individual businesses.
- Excellent understanding of Liquidity Risk, Capital Risk and Market Risk. A broad knowledge gained in the Treasury, Risk or Audit team of a bank
Knowledge and Skills
- Excellent negotiation skills, ability to use this in presentations to very senior stakeholders
- Ability to manage a relationship with staff at all levels and to agree the recommendations with senior management.
- Very good understanding of macro-economics
- Very good understanding of reputational and its impacts
- Good understanding of operational and compliance risks
