GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Market Research Analyst is responsible for research, analysis and reporting of competitor actions with the goal of providing recommendations for product development efforts and positioning our products in the market. The position supports other areas of the company impacted by the development and implementation of new products including, but not limited to, Distribution, Marketing, Actuarial and Compliance.
** This position will be based out of West Des Moines, IA and will need to work an on-site hybrid schedule**
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Daily Responsibilities:
- Monitors, reviews and document competitor actions including rate changes, promotions, new product filings, and other changes. Determine impact on business and report as appropriate.
- Conducts analysis to predict future sales trends.
- Monitor third party websites to ensure that American Equity and Eagle products are represented accurately, as needed.
- Weekly: Prepares a report of all competitive intelligence gathered over the past week and disseminate internally with analysis and business impact included in the report. Attend meetings as the subject matter expert for competitive intelligence for both American Equity and Eagle Life.
- Monthly: Participates in relevant competition-related meetings/committees. Reports any relevant findings. Assists with developing maintain competitor database for the distribution teams. Manage monthly sales and pending business reporting.
- Quarterly: Compiles and analyzes all competitor quarterly sales data from LIMRA’s Secure Retirement Institute and Wink. Prepares a report that analyzes sales by distribution channel, carrier, product, and rider. Determines trends based upon recent and past sales results.
- Annually: Travels to and actively participates in the LIMRA Annuity Research Study Group and the Retirement Industry Conference. Participate in LIMRA’s Annuity Compass Advisory Group.
- Maintain automated reporting when products change including internal reporting and Annuity Compass
- Performs other related work as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university in business or related field of study; plus four (4) years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in insurance industry.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, PROFESSIONAL DESIGNATIONS:
- None required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Proven track record turning research data into actionable business improvements.
- Knowledge of Salesforce and Salesforce reporting.
- Strategic/creative thinker.
- In depth understanding of insurance business; specifically annuities.
- Excellent analytical, written, and oral communication skills.
- Advanced knowledge and command of Microsoft Excel and database systems.
- Strong organizational, data collection, validation, and auditing skills.
- Independent drive: ability to take an idea and run with it.
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently with tight deadlines.
- Team-oriented mindset; willingness to work with a diverse set of businesses and colleagues.
- Engaging attitude, flexible nature, and a willingness to independently problem-solve.
