Job Description

Role Purpose

We are seeking a commercial, customer‑focused Market Development Manager to grow adoption and usage of our commodity benchmarks across the markets we serve.

The role is centred on developing markets through customer relationships and partnerships, with a strong emphasis on derivatives and risk‑management use cases as a key driver of benchmark relevance, liquidity, and long‑term market adoption.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and manage senior customer relationships across producers, consumers, traders, financial institutions, exchanges, and brokers
  • Drive benchmark adoption by embedding prices into customer workflows, including physical contracts, pricing mechanisms, and derivatives and hedging activity
  • Develop and manage strategic partnerships (e.g. exchanges, trading venues, brokers, platforms) that support market growth and participation
  • Support initiatives that improve market usage, engagement, and liquidity, particularly where financial instruments play a role
  • Identify new commercial and market development opportunities informed by customer needs and market structure
  • Act as a bridge between the market and internal teams (editorial, product, commercial), ensuring customer and market insight is reflected internally
  • Represent the business in customer meetings, industry forums, and working groups

Qualifications

We recruit talented, dynamic people with diverse backgrounds and experiences, all united by a belief in our mission to provide the world’s leading and most trusted price reporting, events, and intelligence service for the markets we serve. We’re proud to be an equal opportunities employer and are committed to creating a fully inclusive workplace, where everyone feels able to participate and contribute meaningfully.

If you are open-minded, curious, resilient, solutions-oriented and committed to promoting equality, then read on...

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

We are looking for an individual who is highly motivated, driven, and have a passion to be part of a fast-paced, successful team. Being a strong team player is also important as well as someone who is happy to work flexibly.

  • Proven experience in market development, business development, or customer‑facing roles within commodity markets
  • Essential: Hands‑on experience working with commodity derivatives (e.g. futures, options, swaps, OTC products), either:
    • At an exchange or trading venue
    • Within a bank, broker, or clearing member
    • At a trading house, producer, or consumer using derivatives for risk management
  • Strong understanding of how derivatives support price adoption, liquidity, and benchmark relevance
  • Demonstrated ability to develop markets through adoption, education, and partnerships, particularly in evolving or less mature markets

Commercial & Relationship Skills

  • Highly customer‑centric, with credibility engaging trading desks, risk managers, commercial leads, and pricing decision‑makers
  • Commercially astute, able to identify new use cases and growth opportunities for benchmarks
  • Comfortable operating in complex, multi‑stakeholder market environments

Communication & Collaboration

  • Clear, confident communicator able to explain market and derivatives concepts pragmatically
  • Effective at influencing without authority and working cross‑functionally with editorial, product, sales, and marketing teams

Ideal Background

Candidates are likely to come from:

  • Commodity trading houses, producers, or large consumers with active derivatives usage
  • Exchanges, clearing houses, or trading venues
  • Banks, brokers, or advisory firms focused on commodity markets
  • Price reporting agencies or market data providers with strong financial market exposure

If you're excited about the role but your experience, skills or qualifications don't perfectly align, we encourage you to apply anyway.
