This position is based at GM Technical Centre India - Bengaluru, where our teams focus on manufacturing engineering in Automation. We specialize in designing, developing and operationalizing complex integrated production systems to deliver cost-effective solutions with highest standards of quality.
The Role
Global Manufacturing Engineering at GMTCI is a bridge between Global Manufacturing Plants & Global Product Engineering in getting the Product & Process Right. GMTCI's strategy is to "Execute Design / Simulation / Virtual / Engineerign Workshare for the Globe + Enable Factory for the Future"
Automation work categorize into 2 types, Execution & Development.
During Execution role, Robotics engineer will be primarily responsible for execution of all Robot related projects in various capacities at GM plants across the Globe with respect to Safety, Delivery, Quality, Cost and Performance. In this position the Engineer will perform offline designs and online execution on various new or existing product programs across our portfolio. The incumbent will need to possess a broad technical knowledge, combined with creative and independent thinking and conceptual ability.
During Developmental role, the Robotics Engineer will be responsible to work along with Regional & Global team/SMEs to develop & maintain engineering standards work related to robotics, e-tools, etc.
This position will be based out of GM Technical Center India in Bangalore and involves travel opportunities across different regions for project execution.
What You'll Do

  • Execution of Robot related projects in Body-shop, Press - shop, General Assembly, Global Propulsion System shop and Paint shop sealing applications
  • Monitor and control projects including project scope, issues, risks and schedule. Manage issues to closure. Communicate project status and ensures all stakeholders are aware of progress through project meetings, status reports and milestone reviews.
  • Monitor the configuration of the robots for the application and process like Welding guns, Welding controller, Material Handling grippers, Tool Changers, Dispense equipment etc. Selection of the right model of Robot depending on the process, payload and cycle time requirements.
  • Coordinate with Robot programming agency for a given project. Approval of Robotic cells for shipment after pre-installation at jig maker's site.
  • Approval of Robot simulation and OLP made for a particular project. Suggest improvements in order to reduce on-floor execution time.
  • Buy-off of Robot programs from Robot programming agency.
  • Involve in development and maintenance of engineering standards (templates, e tools etc) and drive to deploy them across all new projects.
  • Responsible for training and integrating with Robot programming agency to adhere to GM standards
  • Responsible for doing Root Cause Analysis.
  • Coordinate project timing schedule with body-shop team. Interact and coordinate with the controls team for interfacing the Robot with the control systems.
  • Coordinate with process suppliers for special processes like roller hemming, laser welding, clinching etc.
  • Coordination with other units of GM, worldwide for global projects.


Additional Description

  • Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • Knowledge on Robot Programming and trouble shooting, preferably FANUC Robots.
  • Project management and site execution skills.
  • Knowledge on Robotic applications like spot-welding, arc-welding, dispensing, roller hemming etc.
  • Should be able to read mechanical drawings, layout and have some mechanical design capabilities.
  • Acquaintance with Robot simulation studies and experience on Robot simulation software will be an added advantage.
  • Robot interface with other equipment (PLC, Line Controller, Other Machines etc). Experience in large BIW projects. Ability to understand electrical and electronic requirements for mechanical equipment's.
  • Knowledge of interface to upper level systems.
  • Basic Knowledge on programming skills such as XML, C#, J Script, VBA, Python etc..
  • Educational Qualifications:
    Masters/Degree/Diploma in Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics Engineering
