Our Consulting Delivery Hub (CDH) in India is a critical part of ERM’s global consulting model enabling scalable, high-quality delivery across regions and service lines. CDH teams work in close partnership with regional consultants to support global client projects, providing specialist expertise, driving consistency, and enhancing delivery efficiency across our most important programmes.

Why this role matters?

As a Managing Consultant – Operational Compliance, you will support ERM’s global consulting delivery by leading the design, implementation, and management of operational compliance programs, strengthening governance, and helping clients manage regulatory and operational risk. You will work within the Safe & Sustainable Operations (SSO) service line, partnering with global consultants and clients to deliver digitally enabled compliance solutions, regulatory reporting, and managed compliance services. This role involves advising senior stakeholders, managing multi-workstream delivery, and translating compliance obligations into practical solutions. It is critical to helping clients strengthen governance, manage regulatory risk, and move from reactive to proactive compliance management, while also building the capability of the CDH-SSO team.

What your impact is?

  • Lead end-to-end compliance engagements, including diagnostics, gap assessments, remediation planning, implementation support, and post-implementation review.

  • Advise clients on operational compliance, environmental permitting, audit readiness, monitoring requirements, and control design across regulated activities.

  • Translate regulatory requirements into practical policies, procedures, and governance improvements that strengthen compliance performance and support proactive managed compliance through QA/QC frameworks.

  • Manage multiple concurrent workstreams or projects, depending on client complexity, while maintaining quality, budget, and timeline commitments.

  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders, regulators, and cross-functional teams across operations, risk, legal, sustainability, and HSE.

  • Build a capable CDH-SSO team by coaching junior team members through project delivery, onboarding, learning initiatives, and practice-building activities.

What will you bring?

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, chemical engineering, occupational health and safety, or a related discipline; equivalent experience considered.

  • Typically, 10–15+ years of relevant experience in consulting, operational compliance, regulatory compliance, environmental management, or a related advisory role.

  • Experience in operational compliance, EHS, or sustainability consulting, with strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and operational requirements across air, water, waste, chemicals, reporting, due diligence, impact assessment, and remediation.

  • Proven ability to lead workstreams, proposals, and end-to-end projects while managing scope, schedule, budget, risk, quality, and small teams.

  • Ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and deliver high-quality outputs with a QA/QC mindset.

  • Experience working with global teams, diverse industries, and cross-functional stakeholders, with leadership skills and executive presence.

  • Strong analytical skills to translate regulatory complexity into structured, actionable solutions.

  • Experience with compliance platforms such as legal registers, compliance calendars, obligation trackers, Enablon, or Sphera.

Preferred qualifications, skills & competencies

  • PhD or master’s degree in environmental management, sustainability, EHS, environmental policy, or a related field.

  • Specialist experience in operational compliance, EHS auditing, regulatory reporting, permitting, or emissions calculations.

  • Experience using digital, automation, or AI-enabled tools to improve compliance delivery.

  • Working knowledge of US- NA/EMEA region, multi-state, or international EHS regulatory frameworks.

  • Professional certifications or training such as CEP, QEP, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, or equivalent.

  • Experience in global delivery set-up or large consulting environments, with commercial acumen and comfort managing ambiguity.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead environmental permitting, air compliance, and broader operational compliance programs, including regulatory analysis, permitting strategies, compliance assessments, and risk identification across air, water, waste, chemicals, occupational/process safety, and related EHS domains.

  • Interpret and apply US-anchored, specifically NA and EMEA, and international EHS regulatory frameworks, like Clean Air Act, RCRA, Clean Water Act/NPDES, SPCC, EPCRA, TSCA, CERCLA, OSHA requirements, applicable state and international regulations, and ISO 14001/ISO 45001 standards.

  • Deliver complex, high-impact engagements by managing scope, schedule, budget, resources, risks, quality, and multidisciplinary workstreams while maintaining clear team expectations and exceptional client delivery.

  • Provide QA/QC review of technical deliverables, recommend and track corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement through standardization, SOPs, templates, best practices, and innovative delivery models.

  • Implement and support compliance platforms and digital tools, and develop dashboards, compliance trackers, and reporting frameworks aligned to operational compliance processes.

  • Build trusted client relationships, present deliverables, support proposal development, participate in client-development activities, and contribute to growth of Operational Compliance service offerings.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop consultants and analysts, including junior team members, through project delivery, routine meetings, onboarding, learning initiatives, knowledge sharing, and capability development.

  • Promote ERM’s commitments to health and safety, DE&I, collaboration, and sustainable client outcomes through day-to-day delivery and team leadership.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, chemical engineering, occupational health and safety, or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
