About the teamThe UX Research team sits within a multidisciplinary team of researchers, Zillow Research & Insights (ZRI), which includes Customer and Partner Insights Strategists, UX Researchers, Behavioral Scientists, Data Scientists, Population Scientists, and Research Operations. We all play a significant role within the greater product and marketing organizations. ZRI sits within Zillow Experience Design (ZxD), a fast-paced, collaborative, and driven product design team. We’re a tight-knit, fun-loving, and upbeat group.
We build useful, usable, and innovative experiences for Zillow customers. These experiences live across web, mobile, and internal software platforms.

About the role
As a Manager, Experience Research, you're responsible for managing a team of UX researchers who inform and assess products and experiences. You’ll work closely with design, content strategy, product management, marketing, engineering, and data science. Your research team will help create exceptional experiences that exceed our customers’ expectations while balancing the needs of the business. This role requires a good balance of strategy and tactical execution, sharp communication skills, and the ability to collaborate widely across the company.
Responsibilities:

Manage 3-5 researchers and lead research activities across multiple product areas

Build meaningful relationships with partners, executives, and other managers

Advocate for customer needs and outcomes throughout the product/service design and development process

Help researchers define research problems, develop research plans, and get support for their recommendations

Evaluate researchers’ work and provide guidance and coaching to develop skills
-
Define scope, timelines, resources, and prioritization for your team’s projects

Coordinate with other managers to plan projects and anticipate challenges

Create frameworks, templates, and processes to scale research capabilities across the team

Help team members understand how their work and priorities align with company objectives

Recruit new talent and help elevate the research practice at Zillow
-
Travel to in-person collaboration sessions and team building events ~6-8 weeks per year
This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company. U.S. employees may live in any of the 50 United States, with limited exceptions.
In California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC the standard base pay range for this role is $157,100.00 - $250,900.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC and may not be applicable to other locations.
In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.

Experience researching digital and physical consumer experiences and delivering insights that drive customer and business outcomes

Experience with a variety of research methods: qualitative research, quantitative research, A/B testing, statistical analysis, and creatively combining qualitative and quantitative insights for deeper impact

Experience prioritizing research roadmaps and activities to deliver practical insights and direction quickly

The technical competence and leadership skills to coach team members in appropriate methodologies, communication style, and technical solutions

Exposure to AI as part of product development, executing research, and/or increasing personal productivity

Ability to inspire cross-functional teams and lead them to deliver their best work while having fun at the same time

Ability to influence and build consensus across all levels of the organization from individual contributors to management (Manager, Director, Senior Director)
