Office of Information Technology

 The Telecommunications Manager is responsible for providing technical leadership, engineering expertise, and project and personnel management to support the University's telecommunications operations. This role involves managing telecommunications staff who handle service delivery, system management, and maintenance and installation tasks. The manager monitors personnel productivity and provides coaching on job performance and professional development as well as ensuring that the on-call rotation is properly staffed and process and procedures are followed during on-call incidentes. Additionally, the manager oversees projects and provides technical leadership for end-to-end telecommunications services, while also managing the financial aspects of the telecommunications department. 

This position is responsible for maintaining radio communications contracts to support the radio infrastructure used by Public Safety and other campus groups. This includes tracking changes to FCC regulations and other factors that may impact radio communication. This position serves as a backup for the Manager of Technology Projects. 

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree preferred

  • 5-10 years of experience in the operation and maintenance of telephone systems, voice mail systems, and access/carrier systems

  • Management experience required

  • In-depth working knowledge of digital and VOIP voice communications networks preferred

Job Competencies

  • Must have strong leadership qualities and the ability to interface with departments at the management/executive level. 

  • Experience negotiating contracts required.

  • Experience managing budgets and forecasting required.

  • Planning and managing all sizes of technology projects required.

  • Experience with telecommunication billing systems.

  • Experience in radio communications equipment support preferred.

  • Visio and CAD experience preferred.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong working knowledge of BICSI standards

  • Demonstrates a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment.

Successful completion of a criminal background check and education verification is required.
