The Manager, Technology Scouting, leads BAC’s global technology scouting program while owning regional execution in one of BAC’s three regions (Americas, EMEA, or APAC). This role is responsible for defining and continuously improving how BAC sources and evaluates technologies within the Advanced Technology framework, establishing a strong presence within key innovation ecosystems and building a high-quality global pipeline of technologies and partnerships aligned with Advanced Technology priorities.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Lead BAC’s global technology scouting program, including translating Advanced Technology priorities into scouting focus areas and defining processes, tools, and execution standards across regions
  • Build and maintain a high-quality global pipeline of technologies/partnerships to support the Advanced Technology portfolio
  • Directly execute technology scouting activities in one of BAC’s three regions (Americas, EMEA, or APAC), serving as the initial anchor for regional presence and pipeline development
  • Own and grow BAC’s presence within key innovation ecosystems
  • Source and prioritize technologies through both external scouting and internal BAC capabilities, aligned with current and future market and technology challenges
  • Lead regional technology assessment activities, including technical evaluation, benchmarking, and development of clear recommendation packages
  • Coordinate and align regional scouting efforts, ensuring consistency in approach, quality, and output across geographies
  • Develop and mentor regional scouting resources and/or future team members, establishing scalable ways of working, strong execution discipline, and core capabilities, e.g. Intellectual Property (IP) and partnerships
  • Partner closely with Advanced Technology, Global Engineering, and Global and Regional business stakeholders to align scouting priorities, support decision-making, and advance selected opportunities
  • Identify and advance technology partnership opportunities, including technical and value assessment, and support or drive execution of partnerships, licensing, and technology acquisitions  
  • Support or drive associated IP activities (internal and external), including invention capture and patent development, in coordination with technical teams, leadership, and legal stakeholders
  • Stay current on emerging technologies and translate trends into actionable insights and opportunities for BAC
  • Drive continuous improvement of scouting processes and tools to improve pipeline quality, speed, and relevance
  • Provide technology scouting expertise across BAC and participate in cross-functional innovation activities

NATURE AND SCOPE

Reports to the Senior Manager, Advanced Technology and leads BAC’s global technology scouting program, owning how technologies are sourced, evaluated, and progressed into the Advanced Technology pipeline, while directly executing scouting activities in one of BAC’s three regions (Americas, EMEA, or APAC).

Operates across multiple geographies, innovation ecosystems, and technical domains, often under conditions of significant technical and commercial uncertainty, and is accountable for pipeline quality, relevance, and alignment with BAC priorities.

Requires strong cross-functional leadership and frequent engagement with Advanced Technology leadership, Global Engineering, and Global and Regional business teams, as well as external partners across global innovation ecosystems, to align priorities, advance opportunities, and support key technology and partnership decisions.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; advanced degree in Engineering or Business preferred
  • ~10+ years of experience in technology scouting, R&D, innovation, or similar; 3+ years in a leadership role preferred
  • Proven experience sourcing and evaluating technologies and building relationships across global innovation ecosystems (startups, universities, VCs, partners)
  • Demonstrated experience building or scaling programs, processes, or capabilities in a global, cross-functional environment

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to supervise staff, prioritize/assign work, and hold direct reports accountable while providing timely, practical feedback
  • Ability to assess technologies across multiple domains and map them against performance, cost, and other relevant targets
  • Strong networking and relationship-building capabilities across global innovation ecosystems
  • Strong communication and synthesis skills, with ability to translate complex technical topics into clear, actionable insights
  • Ability to prioritize across multiple opportunities and align stakeholders in a dynamic, fast-paced environment

BAC Hiring Compensation Range $108,200- $185,200
