Tax Manager
Full Time, 80 Hours Per Pay Period, Day Shift

Position Summary:
Within a team framework, coordinates tax functions for the Covenant Health system entities, including but not limited to reporting, analysis, research, monitoring, and compliance. Responsible for developing and implementing tools to effectively and efficiently capture and report various tax data. Contributes information to management to facilitate strategy and decision making regarding government regulated financial matters. Areas of responsibility include federal tax (for-profit, tax exempt, and benefit plans), state tax (Franchise and Excise, sales tax, and business tax), local tax (property tax), and others as identified.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates filing of all required tax reports.
- Along with Department Director, develops annual work plan that maximizes effectiveness and efficiency of current staff.
- Reviews work performed by tax staff, providing constructive feedback and education as appropriate.
- Along with Department Director, develops staff evaluations, retention efforts, training, and other management functions.
- Coordinates tax reviews and audits (external and internal), including scheduling, interviewing, documentation gathering, and providing response. Responsible for implementing agreed upon changes across all entities as applicable.
- Stays abreast of relevant regulatory issues and developments; monitors developments and regulatory changes; incorporates changes and opportunities into system operations to ensure compliance and proper reporting; communicates significant information to system leadership.
- Serves as member of teams involved with system and entity structural changes in both tax exempt and for profit areas.
- Collaborates with appropriate leadership to execute strategic planning, process improvements, and innovation.
- Develops and implements short and long-range plans for department operations and improvements
- Researches complex issues.
- Serves as back up to Director.
- Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.

Minimum Education:
Master’s of Business, Accounting, or Finance or CPA license. In lieu of Master’s Degree or CPA license, candidate may have fifteen (15) years of related experience.
Minimum Experience:
Minimum of eight (8) years of related experience. Position requires excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to interact with all levels of staff and regulators. Must be able to manage multiple concurrent projects, maintaining predetermined schedule. Must have extensive knowledge of healthcare related financial accounting principles. Must demonstrate ability to process and organize large quantities of data. Must exhibit solid leadership, motivation, and interpersonal skills, in context of departmental team. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Skills Required
- Master's degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance, or CPA license
- Fifteen years of related experience may substitute for the master's degree or CPA license
- At least eight years of related experience
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
