WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Manager, Talent Development is a member of Teach For America South Carolina (TFASC)’s Regional Impact Team. In this role, you will be responsible for planning and leading impactful, high-quality professional development for early career educators via TFASC’s New Teacher Academy (NTA). Specifically, you will work closely with the Director, Talent Development to strategize, plan, and execute the NTA program, resulting in increased new teacher retention and improved student outcomes in SC’s rural and under-resourced school districts. You will rely on your background in education and knowledge of facilitation best practices to lead thoughtful and engaging sessions rooted in the core tenets of teacher development. 


 

WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

  • 75%: Teacher Training and Development 

    • In partnership with the Director, Talent Development, plans and facilitates sessions for TFASC’s NTA to provide intentional, data-driven, and high-quality development to early career educators in partner school districts.

    • Provides detailed coaching to teachers on instructional techniques and classroom management, while also helping them connect their values and beliefs to their work.

    • Designs materials to support NTA district partners, including program scope and sequence, session decks and accompanying handouts, and intersession work.

    • Supports collection of NTA programmatic data, including executing participant and partner surveys.

    • Supports the operations and logistics for the NTA program to run successfully, including confirming scheduling, organizing necessary session materials, ordering food for participants, keeping track of participant attendance, etc. 

  • 25%: Team Responsibilities 

    • Supports the region’s teacher recruitment goals by executing specific recruitment projects as assigned, attending in-person career fairs, and leading professional development & informational sessions for prospects.

    • Participates in all-team recruitment activities as needed throughout the year. 

    • Supports and participate in regional events

    • Attends and participates in team staff meetings, retreats, and other all-team engagements. 

    • Drives own professional development with support from manager and others to include mandatory PD requirements of the region (i.e.: Racial Equity Institute training).

    • Engages in community opportunities that have personal meaning/connection.

    • Understand and effectively communicate TFASC’s programmatic initiatives, goals, and impact externally and internally.

    • Operates flexibly to lend skills and capacity to meet the needs of emerging projects or priorities as they arise.


 

A WEEK IN THE LIFE

 Over the course of any week, the Manager, Talent Development will spend time developing and refining the NTA program curriculum alongside the Director, Talent Development. You will travel to a partner school district to co-facilitate NTA for approximately 40 - 80 new teachers. You will coach struggling teachers 1-1, relying on experience and education best practices to support them. You will engage with district staff to understand the growth areas of program participants, tailoring the program to meet the real-time needs of the district. You will participate in team meetings, proactively sharing learnings and stories from NTA with the wider team to identify possible areas for cross-functionality. Sometimes you may even lean in and use your talents to support work such as other regional recruitment events/initiatives, corps member interviews, and more.  


 

YOUR EXPERIENCE

Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role (minimum qualifications): 

  •  At least 2 years of related work experience

  • Experience:

    • Skilled facilitator and designer of dynamic learning experiences, preferably well-versed in adult learning design principles and experienced in leading other adults professionally

    • Deep knowledge of education and training best practices 

    • Ability to observe a teacher in action or listen to a problem of practice and identify the biggest lever for change; Ability to invest teachers in actionable next steps to improve their practice.

    • Ability to develop and cultivate relationships with diverse internal and external collaborators

    • Ability to use data to drive programmatic decisions

    • Ability to create and follow-through on strong operational structures for self and others

    • Willing to work occasional weekend or evening work hours required.

    • Bachelor’s Degree

    • 3+ years of teaching experience required

YOUR COMPENSATION

The applicable salary range for each U.S.-based role is based on where the employee works and is aligned to one of 3 tiers according to a cost of labor index in that geographic area. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role. The expected salary ranges for this role are set forth below. These ranges may be modified in the future.
