Working under the direction of the Head of Sustainable Investing for Private Markets, the Manager will work with investing and asset management teams across Private Equity (PE) and the enterprise and be accountable for the continued development and management of the Sustainable Investing (SI) program for Private Equity (PE) in accordance with business requirements and the OMERS Sustainable Investing Framework. You will bring professional experience and knowledge on a combination of investing, sustainability and key approaches and topics most relevant to private equity as well as a passion to contribute to the continued advancement and demonstration of leadership in Sustainable Investing at OMERS.
You will be responsible for:
- Support, engage and build capacity of Direct Private Equity and Private Capital teams on SI throughout the investment lifecycle across and tailored to investing programs during:
- Investment due diligence
- Review diligence materials and identify sustainability-related risks and opportunities, including where third-party engagement may be merited
- Advise investment team on production of SI-related materials for investment committee requirements
- Asset management, including tracking asset SI performance and supporting assets on SI-related, pragmatic risk mitigation and value creation initiatives
- Conduct annual review of portfolio using PE framework and in conjunction with third party that could be engaged for deep dives
- Identify gaps and areas for improvement, and develop and implement advisory engagements to close gaps
- Exit opportunities
- Support investment teams with content describing asset SI attributes that can be incorporated in exit process and materials
- Investment due diligence
- Identify portfolio trends and develop programmatic approaches for building portfolio company capacity and sharing best practices
- Based on annual review and periodic meetings with counterparts at portfolio companies, track and assess common themes and recommend activities to support companies including hosting webinars and engaging third party experts
- Serve as the intermediary for PE and OMERS SI Team and other enterprise functions
- Ensure all OMERS SI requirements are met for PE
- Ensure PE’s perspective is incorporated in the development of OMERS initiatives
- Represent PE at enterprise level SI committees and working groups
- Collaborate with SI counterparts across asset classes
- Monitor and anticipate material trends at the intersection of SI and PE, and help PE to consider when, where and how to integrate these factors into business practices
- Engage with peers at other funds and companies
- Represent PE in industry initiatives, associations and speaking engagements
- Contribute to PE’s core investing and asset management key priorities with SI, while building individual’s PE knowledge and relationships
Required Skills:
- University degree in business, finance, economics, engineering, or relevant areas
- 5+ years of sustainability experience within investment management, asset management, financial services, or consulting, with exposure to investing, risk, climate, regulatory compliance, health and safety, cyber and data privacy, and/or HR
- Proven track record of driving strategic initiatives that enhance overall performance and value
- Disposition well-suited to following high-level direction in a complex organizational structure, working proactively and independently, collaborating within high-performing teams, and delivering consistent, high-quality results
- Demonstrated ability to forge strong relationships with internal and external partners
- Excellent communication, facilitation and engagement skills and applicable across diverse groups and levels of seniority
- Strong analytical skills and curiosity to critically assess regularly evolving SI frameworks and benchmarks, data platforms, service providers, and other elements in the SI ecosystem
Preferred Skills:
- MBA, CFA, and/or post graduate degree(s) in engineering, environmental science, or other relevant areas
- Experience delivering sustainability-driven value creation outcomes across portfolio companies within a private equity or investment management environment
- Knowledge and proficiency of emerging AI tools and processes

The expected salary range for this position is $120,000-160,000 per year.
