Job Description:
Procurement & Sourcing
- Manage end-to-end procurement of mechanical commodities, including:
- Fabrication items (sheet metal, machined components, assemblies)
- Castings, forgings, fasteners, bought-out parts
- Identify and develop new suppliers for cost optimization and risk mitigation
- Execute RFQs, techno-commercial evaluations, and negotiations
- Ensure timely release of purchase orders and adherence to delivery schedules
Vendor Management
- Develop and maintain a robust vendor base across fabrication and mechanical categories
- Conduct supplier performance evaluations (quality, delivery, cost)
- Lead vendor audits and capability assessments
- Drive supplier performance improvements through structured follow-ups
Expediting & Delivery Management
- Proactively expedite critical orders to ensure on-time delivery
- Track order progress and resolve bottlenecks with suppliers
- Coordinate closely with vendors and internal teams to prevent production disruptions
- Handle urgent and short-lead-time requirements effectively
Cost Optimization
- Drive cost reduction initiatives through:
a) Alternate sourcing
b) Value engineering / value analysis (VE/VA)
c) Negotiation and benchmarking
- Monitor market trends for key raw materials (steel, alloys, etc.)
Fabrication Exposure
- Strong understanding of fabrication processes such as:
Sheet metal fabrication; Welding; machining; laser cutting; bending
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and technical specifications
- Work with engineering teams on design-to-cost and manufacturability improvements
ERP & Systems
- Use ERP systems (MS Dynamics/SAP / Oracle / similar) for:
a) Purchase order processing and tracking
b) Vendor master management
c) Inventory coordination
- Generate MIS reports and procurement analytics
- Ensure data accuracy and system compliance
Cross-Functional Team (CFT) Collaboration
- Actively participate in cross-functional teams (CFT) involving Engineering; Production and Quality departments.
- Support new product development (NPD) and project sourcing activities
- Align procurement strategies with business and project requirements
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure adherence to procurement policies and procedures
- Maintain documentation for audits and compliance
- Support contract management and supplier agreements
Qualification and Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering is desired
- Minimum 8–10 years of experience in sourcing / purchasing of mechanical components and exposure to fabrication sourcing is mandatory.
- Experience in manufacturing / engineering industries is preferred
- Strong negotiation and commercial acumen
- Proficiency in ERP systems
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Exposure and reasonable knowledge of Quality Systems and Standards
- Experience in cost reduction and strategic sourcing initiatives
- Exposure to global sourcing is an added advantage
