About the role

We’re looking for a Manager, Specialty solutions, to join our growing team!
What you’ll do here:

  • Build a strong book of profitable business while also auditing policies to ensure adherence to company standards.

  • Coach underwriters and assist in negotiating with brokers on larger opportunities.

  • Train brokers and underwriting staff on products and appetite.

  • Communicate on a regular basis with key broker contacts on accounts, plans and results.

  • Liaise with the Business Development Team to reinforce broker’s portfolio performance and develop new business opportunities.

  • Manage employee performance and contribute to the salary review process.

  • Hold regular team meetings with staff to communicate corporate and branch issues and to receive employee feedback.

  • Participate in the establishment of premium and loss ratio targets.

  • Authorize the acceptance of new business, renewals and endorsements.

  • Promote the company’s products through information sessions with brokers.

  • Develop and manage effective working relationships with brokers, staff, and other departments.

  • Establish and maintain service levels by organizing and monitoring workflow and setting priorities to ensure maximum efficiency and productivity.

  • Establish goals and monitor the development of underwriting staff to ensure achievement of department Business Plan.

What you bring to the table:

  • University and/or College Degree or any combination of equivalent education and experience

  • Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation is an asset

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in Commercial/Personal Lines, or Specialty / Non-Standard insurance

  • Previous supervisory experience required

  • Ability to provide strategic direction, to transmit and share information to different target audiences.

  • Ability to execute short- and long-term strategic priorities

  • Build relationships based on trust and collaboration with different groups and to influence business priorities.

  • Strong set of soft skills including interpersonal, organizational and time management skills, communication and skills

  • Able to navigate changes internally and in the market

  • Bilingualism (French and English). Need to interact on a regular basis with colleagues across the country.

  • No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.
