Encova Insurance is seeking a Manager, Special Investigations to join our team. This position offers the flexibility of being home-based; however, strong preference will be given to those residing in Ohio for in-person collaboration as needed from our corporate office in Columbus.

JOB OBJECTIVE:
The Manager, Special Investigations ensures that the department establishes and maintains effective relationships with local/state/ federal law enforcement along with other insurance- related investigative agencies and associations.
The manager directs all activity in the special investigations unit (SIU) and manages all staff assigned to ensure all investigative objectives are met and the SIU operates effectively. The manager provides guidance and direction to investigators regarding investigative procedure, including troubleshooting and problem resolution of any issues of concern. This position is also responsible for managing relationships with private investigation firms that have been contracted to provide services to Encova Insurance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Directly manage a team of SIU professionals; plan and assign work. Manage performance and professional development of team and prepare and monitor budget.
- Review and research current surveillance techniques and equipment and make recommendations to leadership for ongoing training and upgrades in equipment to make sure investigators have the tools and resources needed for successful investigations.
- Develop and conduct educational training programs for internal and external customers regarding the SIU and its experience, expertise and commitment to customer service, and the services SIU provides.
- Manage and direct the activity of contract private investigation firms hired to provide investigative services. Establish and maintain collaborative relationships and standards of conduct expected of investigators for assignments made to them. Ensure quality, timely and professional service and make sure they meet and maintain all requirements for approved vendor status.
- Assure the Company’s compliance with applicable legal, regulatory and contract anti-fraud requirements, reporting requirements and maintain reports/documentation of that compliance for all states in which Encova does business.
- Establish and regularly report metrics for the SIU. Report on all SIU activities and performance of both internal and contract investigators to appropriate management.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with claims adjusters, claims leadership and Regional Vice Presidents to ensure open communication concerning their investigative needs; participate in communication/training sessions when appropriate to make sure they have the most current, updated information related to SIU activities
- Develop and maintain liaison relationships with federal, state and local law enforcement as well as anti-fraud agencies and other carriers anti-fraud professionals
- Identify key performance indicators and establish expected performance goals. Develop reports, monitor results and implement improvement actions as needed.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
- Participate in special projects, committees, task forces and other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice or related field required.
- Seven-plus years of experience as an SIU investigator with multi-line insurance, law enforcement or private investigation required.
- Two of the seven years in a management position is strongly desired.
- Effective investigative and interviewing skills with the ability to perform internet research.
- Extensive knowledge of MS Office, Word & Excel.
- Effective organization skills and ability to manage multiple projects.
- Exceptional communication skills to facilitate interaction in a team environment and collaborate with other business units for information gathering, reporting results, training, etc.
- Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of various programs and procedures and incorporate improvements.
- Knowledge of current trends and developments in the investigative field
