We are looking for you to join our team as a Software Engineering Manager based out of San Diego, CA.
What You'll Get to Do:
The software engineering manager will lead a section of approximately 10-15 application software engineers working within the San Diego Engineering and Sciences (E&S) Software and Digital Technologies (SWDT) department. The successful candidate will lead direct report employees based on organizational goals, program activity, and company policies. Specific responsibilities include coordinating with programs for staffing, recruiting, training, preparing and delivering performance reviews to employees, evaluating/recommending employees for promotions, evaluating salaries and coordinating with Human Resources on potential adjustments, assisting employees in preparing performance goals, providing career guidance to employees and counseling employees on their performance as necessary. Program Execution and Engineering Excellence are our driving forces.
The qualified candidate shall also be a technical performer, working approximately 80% directly on programs involving systems within the Connectivity & Network Solutions (CNS) business unit (BU), representing our Engineering and Sciences organization.
This manager will support and be accountable for goals including:
- Cultivate an inclusive and engaging workplace. Ensure employees’ work life balance is appropriate
- Workforce: maintain staff adequate to execute to program plans, as well as for strategic growth. Plan assignments and fill program needs to ensure success, but which also offer growth to the individuals performing the work
- Performance management: on an ongoing basis engage with staff to identify growth opportunities, deficiencies, appropriate training, etc. Execute to the Enterprise review cycle. Manage compensation and career progression
- Support the creation, updating, and maintenance of software engineering processes.
Basic Qualifications:
- BS + 8 years of exp in related STEM field; MS + 6 years of exp
- Candidate must have excellent written, communication, and emotional intelligence skills, and be able to work independently and within groups
- Ability to facilitate/mediate in conflict resolution matters
- Proficiency in software development, Object Oriented programming, and software lifecycle processes
- Familiarity with other engineering disciplines including manufacturing, test, systems, quality, and electrical
- Must have an active Secret Clearance
- Candidate must be able to work on site at the facility
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a functional manager or technical team leader
- Candidate should have hands on experience with DoD communications systems
- Proficiency in C/C++, Python, Java, XML, Multi-threaded Linux Environments
- Familiar with OMS/UCI infrastructure
- Experience with DevOps technologies including Atlassian suite, GitLab, Jenkins, Coverity, BlackDuck
- Candidate should have direct supervisory experience and/or significant team leadership
- Familiarity with EVMS Reporting and CAM responsibilities
- Familiarity with other organizational functions such as supply chain, procurement, logistics, and mission assurance
Skills Required
